We start this refurbishing series of my Yoder Smokers YS640 Pellet smoker with a test. I wanted to try out a couple methods prior to starting on the main unit. Lucky for me, I had the old cart still around. Figured this would be the closest thing I could possibly conduct this test on.
Looking online I don’t see anything on a full prep and paint of the Yoder YS640 pellet smoker. I can find a few things that talk about touch up. I used some of these tips for the test. I just couldn’t in vision myself sanding this whole thing by hand.
**DISCLAIMER This method of using the orbital sander worked for me. You may not have the same results. I also used a belt sander on the main unit. I did get a few swirl marks on the main unit. For me it was well worth the time and energy expended. If you have any questions on prep and paint of your unit please contact your manufacturer and follow their recommendations. We are all adults here. Use your best judgement on your smoker. I do not assume any responsibility or liability on how your project turns out.**
I started out with some citrus cleaner prior to sanding. Next I tried the 120 grit sanding pad. It worked great, but I couldn’t see myself doing the whole unit this way. Next I went with the orbital sander with 120 grit also. Painted it up and felt this test was a success. Now on to the main unit.
