As good a talker as Cornette was, he was not needed to be brought in to help manage or be the spokesperson for Yokozuna. Mr. Fuji provided the more authentic experience in serving as both the mouthpiece and ringside manager for Yokozuna. I think McMahon and others had concerns that Fuji couldn't be understood, but I never had any problem understanding him. He is perfectly fine here. I know Fuji also said in an interview a few years ago he was not happy about Cornette being brought in and essentially taking over.
@Yamah12a

wtf are u on about, fuji doesnt get any of the joke paths conan is going down. if this was cornette he would have been on a constant roll. And the ironic thing is that Cornette didn't want to be the spokesperson for Yoko either, he was basically blackmailed into it by McMahon, Cornette said it himself on his podcast.

@@tomnagy3010 I'm not saying I don't believe you, BUT... It sounds weird to be "blackmailed into managing the World Champion, and being the main talking focus of multiple PPV main events, including Wrestlemania". I would sure like to receive that kind of "blackmail" where I work! LOL
@matthewrock4725
4 жыл бұрын
@@toptenguy1 lmao blackmailed isnt the right word. But they didn't tell him until he brought his tag team up to have SMW work with WWF and give him some publicity. They sprung it on him when he got up there, and he begrudgingly accepted. It was mutually beneficial but it really wasn't Jim wanted to do. As he said "some people up there who knew me probably told them, 'Oh he's not gonna come up unless he has his boys with him, and they were right." WWF wanted him to speak for yokozuna, so they gave him reason enough to come up there before even asking him. I guess that's where "blackmail" came into play lol

I never knew this existed. One of the wrestlers that I feared and hated as a child and now respect infinitely, and my favorite late night comedian, Conan O'Brien. It's funny how as a kid, Yokozuna was the epitome of villainy. He wasn't even "EVIL" per se. He was a just a guy who wasn't SUPPOSED to be so physically agile, but his speed for his size, mixed with his imposing figure made him a larger than life character, no pun intended whatsoever. It also helped a lot that he was the villain credited for "killing Hulkamania" when he beat Hulk Hogan and Hogan left to another company. If you would have sat me down in 1993 and explained to me that Yokozuna was just some really funny guy named Rodney who loved hip hop and was a good dad, I would have told you that you were crazy 😂😂 This is a really great find here. Just watching Yokozuna fighting for his life to maintain his villainous gaze and not laugh is absolute entertainment gold. Watching Mr Fuji struggle to not laugh is also great. Fuji was the man. RIP to the GOAT, Yokozuna. Just a side note, but I see the date to this is 11/22/93. This was filmed on the 30th anniversary of the assassination of JFK. Another side note: I couldn't stop laughing at the "audience question" from the man in the audience. That was, of course, the actor Robert Vaughn, who played the villain in the movie Basketball in 1998. He passed in 2016, may he rest in peace. Ironically, he was born on 11/22/1932, 31 years before Kennedy's assassination, and 61 years before this tv show appearance. This Conan appearance was actually his birthday.
