Most versions of fishcakes involve leftover fish mashed with potato, formed into a patty, coated in breadcrumbs and fried. The Yorkshire is different. In a Yorkshire fishcake, you have fish sandwiched between two slices of potato, coated in batter and fried. A poor mans version of this is the fritter - simply a slice of potato coated in batter and deep-fried. Also in this video, I make a pineapple fritter, which is a surprisingly tasty thing. Yorkshire fishcakes are very easy to make at home.
In the video I mistakenly refer to these as 'Sheffield' fishcakes. This is not what they're called - I got that idea from a couple of highly-biased articles in Sheffield-based blogs. In my defence, before I made this video, I'd never bought a fishcake from a chippy - I always get fish.
