■ LYRICS :
Before summer arrived, I wrote of the fireworks that burst in my chest
Night is coming, so my eyes are set on the day after tomorrow
I’ll put it into words one more time
As I remember a certain August day
Nothing I could say about it would ever be enough
Ringing out two beats from my guitar
These song lyrics are 380 characters long
I wrote rock n’ roll songs
And sang of nothing but that summer
A simple ‘goodbye’ just won’t be enough
I need more than these songs of the days you glowed in the crimson light[4]
Just remembering will never be enough
Watching the flowers swim, I wait for summer
And you turn into words
To make sure I’d never forget, I wrote of the fireworks we watched that summer
In my memories, we’re like ghosts that only appear at night
There’s nothing good to be found here
This whole world was unintelligible to me
It’s full of things you never told me about
That hall where we played the piano
And that cafe have long been gone
I could kill all those people who spoke ill of us
I’m sure you would laugh along with me
Going on like this still isn’t enough
We were caught in the wind as the flowers took our breath away
The more I remember, the more it hurts
Summer’s coming, I’m dreaming
And in my heart, a hole is opening
Just singing songs won’t be enough
Not even songs of the days you glowed in the crimson light
I want to experience a night filled with beauty
Flowers take my breath away, and the moon shines its light upon me as I wait for summer
NOTES:
[1] While the official English title is "Evening Calm, Somewhere, Fireworks," n-buna has stated that the 'bou' in the title actually refers to a certain day. Meanwhile, the 'bou' of "Hachigatsu, Bou, Tsukiakari" is meant to refer to a certain place.
[2] According to n-buna, you can read the 某 in the song's title any way you'd like, whether it's 'bou' or 'nanigashi' but NOT 'soregashi' as that would refer to "a certain person".
[3] Since the Japanese word for fireworks, 花火 (hanabi), contains the character for flowers, 花 (hana), n-buna often compares the two to one another. In this song, every mention of flowers refers to the fireworks Elma and Amy saw, and every mention of fireworks has a flower-like behavior.
[4] Akane sasu is makurakotoba, or 'pillow words,' commonly attached to 日 hi (day) or 昼 hiru (noon) to give the imagery of the sky "shining in madder red."
