Hey guys, for those of you that don't know, I've been working on making an update for YSQ after releasing it in order to fix some of the issues V1.3 has as well as to polish it up further. This is a video I made showing off some of the changes that V1.3.1 will bring. Also, this video is not only my longest one yet, but it's also the first video that I've edited, mainly because ZSNES has a bad habit of desyncing when I'm recording, which means I'll have to start over if it randomly does that. I wasn't about to spend hours trying to record stuff only for ZSNES to decide to be a jerk and make me start over, so I recorded this in several parts, then combined them all into one video. For the record, I recorded 8 parts and only had to redo two of them.
Also, a few quick notes:
- Towards the end of Dinosaur Trail, you'll notice that Yoshi looks like he has something in his mouth after the cutscene, but he actually doesn't. At one point when I was adding all these new frames for Yoshi, I made it so that when he has something in his mouth, the game loads separate GFX for those frames so I'd have more room in GFX32 for Yoshi's tiles for a given state he can be in (he has 4 states. Those of you who have played far enough into YSQ can probably guess what the other 2 states are). I fixed this glitch once I noticed it as I recorded that part.
- I recently added a death counter and an exit counter to the status screen, but they don't work at the moment. I have to port everything over to a clean copy of SMW before they'll display properly.
- Me and one of my V1.3 beta testers have been working on shortening the text in YSQ without compromising anything if possible. I haven't inserted any of the new text yet, so it's not shown in the video.
- There is supposed to be a message at the start of Ahh! Brambles!, but it's not present because that message would cause the clouds to appear in front of layer 2 after I close it, which I didn't want.
- There's a lot more to this update than what you see in this video, some of which are things I can't really show, like the fact that the DKC barrels no longer shoot you if you hold B and the fact that Yoshi no longer makes sounds for his abilities when they are disabled.
- You see all those new poses Yoshi has? That was because I figured out how the player tilemap routine works, and I'm able to do whatever I want with it now. That routine is kind of weird with how it works, but messing around with it allowed me to give Yoshi poses where his 2 16x16 tiles and 2 8x8 tiles can be wherever I want them to be. I could have used the 32x32 player patch or the 32x32 player function in the dynamicz patch, but I chose not to because I think that would have probably caused a lot of problems that would have been tricky to deal with.
- Even though I've changed Yoshi's poses, Yoshi's hitbox has not been changed, so in order to avoid confusion, I tried to center Yoshi's tiles around his hitbox. Ex. When ducking, his hixbox is exactly where his body is when he stands up in the spot where he is ducking, so about 8 pixels of his nose and rear end aren't part of the hitbox in his ducking poses.
