What is really the craziest thing about Lauri is that while he is the number one guy on the Jazz he does not hogg or demand the ball and usually gets his shots within the flow of the offense. He is a seven footer, moving out there like Steph Curry and if you blink on him, he is either shooting an open three or dunking on you. That is the wildest thing about it. He hardly ever has the ball in his hands... This is why last season was such a big success when Mike Conley was still there and it seems that the combination of Dunn, Clarkson, Sexton and George are able to fill in that role for the team and they have found their footing. To be completely honest I think they should have not traded Conley last season. He was the veteran leader of a very young team and his absence created a void that they needed quite a bit of time to fill. I hope they keep on winning and we see them in the playoffs... But we'll see how the 12-13 in the west all fit into the playoffs that are going for it... It is going to be a bloodbath.

I called the OKC strength pre season and had a lot of pushback from other commenters about that, but I am not a casual. I thought the Jazz had a lot of promise after the trades when I saw who they had, and they started out great last season, but then they faded. This year, not a great start but playing well now. Are they just figuring things out, are they just a streaky team at the moment, I still don’t know. Absolutely promising and unless they are consistent idiots in the draft should have a real chance of contending in say three years or so. Unless this is not a streak now and they have it nailed, I just cannot tell.

I bet the Jazz wouldn't even trade Lauri for Donovan straight up now. Donovan is a great scorer and no. 1 option, but Lauri is just the more complete player and provides more line up versatility with his size and speed. And the draft picks they got are for a time when Donovan is potentially no longer with the Cavs, and I believe none of them are protected so hands down, Danny Ainge got to plunder them right there. The Gobert trade for me is more of a win-win considering how Rudy is fitting right in and the Wolves have found an identity that maximizes the talent that they have. Although, same with Donovan, I think Kessler and Keyonte fits in more with how Utah plays than Rudy. Coach Hardy getting Kessler to start outside during plays so he won't clog up the lane and cut to the basket at opportune time is something you can't design for Rudy as his skill set is quite different.

Glad Gobert has found a good home as well, Michell was a fun ride, his development was fun to watch, I feel much better at this point with Lauri as well, not sure I’d even want Donovan over Sexton at this point, but both together-- ya. Good trade, good timing. Plus Donavan seems really not liking the utah culture, being from New York, I get it. Iv lived both and quite different for sure. Ya gotta love nature and good family life for one. Don’t get me wrong I loved New York back in the day. New York has changed a lot in 25 years.

I think the main reason the Jazz is doing so great is that they have found two really solid 5-man setups. Their "bench" is right on par with the starters and can take over any game them selves. Hardy has done a great job finding pieces that support the play style of their star players.

Good video, good analysis. One thing you didn't really cover was the defensive improvement. While partly due to Hardy's coaching, a lot of it's personnel. Dunn, Kessler, and Obaji are plus defenders. However-Collins, Fonteccio and even Sexton are really giving it up on D, with improved effort and commitment leading to good results. Seeing Collins giving up his body guarding centers and Fonteccio wrestling power forwards and Sexton playing a really irritating form of "I wanna wear those shorts too" defense is great to watch, and appears to be inspiring to the other players. This includes guys who are not naturally defense minded-Clarkson and George (and THT when he was playing). And Olynyk looks bad when he gets beat one-on-one, but he is also involved in a lot of dramatically great defensive sequences. Dude knows how to play. Add it all up, stir in Coach Hardy's take on zone defense and allow for the fact that it's 2024 and the league seems to WANT scores in the 130s and oila'! Good defense.

Sexton is way better than his reputation despite some limitations. The team really turned a corner when they switched to him and Dunn (a great fit next to him even if it's a small backcourt) starting and bringing Keyonte, who is really special but needs more reps, off the bench. They also have young guys like Sensabaugh and Hendricks that we haven't got a chance to see much yet.. Sensabaugh especially has a game tailor-made for the modern NBA and only fell so far in the draft to them because of injury concerns - he was a late lottery level talent and they got him at the end of the first. Great video. Getting Ainge and Will Hardy from Boston looks like a massive win for that franchise. The league is changing pretty fast, and a roster with this apparent 'lack of star talent' would have been impossible to imagine being successful in the 90's or early 2000's.. but not in 2024.

I’m pretty scared if the lakers make a bad trade coming from a a lakers fan it’s stressful bc if they make a bad trade the jazz and the warriors will pass them to make the play ins and the lakers as being the 11th seed.

Jazz had allready passed them before the head to head. All teams have fluctuating forms, but the battle for the two last play-in spots might become a 3 team fight between Lakers, Warriors and Rockets.

Pretty sure the perfect rebuild is happening in OKC. Although I guess they may be already out of that rebuilding stage and into emerging title contenders

Yep I would say they've pretty much nailed it aswell but I also think that's pretty much unanimous around the league, Utahs flying under the radar a bit more
