The 22” flying fox is definitely one of my favorites. It’s a laser beam. I would love to have it on a boys axe handle like that. Great video!

It’s definitely worth it. Only thing is I definitely want a 22 and a 28! If the flying fox was a pound of two heavier with a boys axe eye it would be so deadly.

Awesome video man !!! I’m really happy you did this, I was considering putting my flying fox on a 26” handle. I put the CT woodcraft pack axe on a 26” and I love it !! I also think the flying fox is often underestimated, I know most people use it for a throwing axe which is cool if that’s what you’re into, but man it an extremely capable woods tool 👍 great video !!

Thanks a lot! I agree the FF is a great axe, and has alot of potential with the longer handle. As a plus, the boys axe handle I got fit like a glove with no need to reshape it. Super easy. How do you like your pack axe? I’ve been eyeing that one for a long time now.

@@urbanlumberjack oh awesome that’s great !! Yeah I was looking at the hardware store truper handles and they look like they would fit the FF with little work .. and man the pack axe with the 26” handle I absolutely love it !! It’s very capable with the handle it comes with I just wanted something a little longer. But yeah man it’s a great axe !! I use the hell out of it .. I recently made a video using it with the 26” handle if you want check it out, I do a bunch of talking in the beginning and open a gift from a subscriber but if you want to fast forward to the chopping it a decent watch 🤙

Awesome, it’s amazing what just a bit longer handle can do for an axe. You’ve got good videos, I enjoyed watching them.

@@urbanlumberjack Love the video! Where did you get the handle? I have a Council Tool Boy's Axe Handle, but it will need quite a bit of reshaping to fit the FF's eye.

Looks like a great general-purpose carpentry axe. I do a bit wood working and use an axe quite often for roughing out pieces. Ive been using a thinned-down CT camp hatchet hung on an 18” handle for this purpose, but I’ve wondered if there was a better out-of-the-box-solution out there that, like the camp hatchet, was also budget friendly. This axe (on the 22” handle) might be just the ticket.

It’s definitely a really nice chopper. Alot of real thoughtful features, like the hardened poll, and it’s possible to choke up on the handle for carving because of the curve on the bit. Also, the price is really, really good.

@@urbanlumberjack funny story: I bought this axe, mostly on impulse, after seeing your video. The axe arrived yesterday, and I gave it a solid test today. This thing is indeed a serious chopper. I didn't even sharpen it, and it handily outperformed my Hults Bruk carpenter's axe (which has a ridiculously thick bit) and nearly as well as my custom CT camp hatchet. So yeah, Council accidentally made a great wood working axe! The only downsides I see are the relatively small/narrow poll, which could make driving pegs and such a little more challenging, and (in my specific case) the absolute worst runout I've ever seen on an axe handle.

I need to get me one of these. Been looking for a another rafting pattern and the flying fox keeps impressing me. Also I’ll be damned if you don’t look just like the guy from the Movie into the wild

Hi, watch your channel all the time!! Question: Does the Flying Fox hold on edge as well as the your Pak Axe with the 5160 steel??? Flying Fox intrigues me! Thx Steve

Hard to say because the pack axe has a much more robust grind. The flying fox has a thinner edge which makes it awesome for carving and finer tasks but not as good for heavy duty stuff like the pack axe. I haven’t had any issues with either, the steel is excellent. To me, they’re both some of my favorites, and I buy the flying fox as thank you’d for good customers and family/friends. I think they’re both worth owning

Appreciate it! They have great temperaments, very nice goats to have around, and at some point when their horns grow out I’m going to trim them for knife scales
