It could be a flair of the dramatic, but this seemingly simple finishing project was an arduous journey of absolute peril. Ok, that does sound over the top.
We’ve had some furniture we’ve bought in the past that was admittedly cheaper and turned out sub par with its MDF or more inferior structures. My wife found an estate sale going on in our neighborhood and her style is definitely more of a classical nature, so older households spelled two things: Old style furniture and that they would be made of some type of solid wood. We got these French Provincial pieces with the idea to refinish them for a room upstairs.
I wanted to use water based finishes because I don’t really enjoy having to use solvents to clean brushes and messes. Behr usually a pretty great brand, but I had some major trouble with their water based stain snd polyurethane. It could have been something in the application but the stain was definitely patchy and the poly was definitely not a smooth coat application. I had to defy directions to get it to work.
With this in mind I haven’t seen anyone discuss polishing a water based poly here on KZitem, so here you go. I’ve managed to get some decent results polishing with an orbital sander, despite stain and poly problems.
