Ingestion of berries or leaf material in small quantities may cause no symptoms or only minor gastrointestinal upset. It’s important to note that even a small quantity of the plant may be harmful for some people, however. Ingesting large amounts of ivy can cause breathing difficulties, muscle weakness, coordination problems, fever, hallucinations, and even coma. A standardized extract made from the English ivy plant may be safe, depending on how the extract is made. It may even be useful medicinally, as described below. A "standardized" extract is one with a known concentration of the active substance. This concentration is chosen for both effectiveness and safety.-------- love watching your videos and we watch Darryl Patton and others that's how we found out for some people this is bad just saying you may want to warn people

Thank you for the informative video/s I have been using English ivy for several years, I'm not certain that it's exactly the same one that you're using, but it looks similar. The person who taught me about English ivy told me that he treated his granddaughter's hand from a massive infection which the health center was not managing at all and the nurses were even afraid of touching it because it kept on spreading, so I imagine that the child had some kind of fungal infection. He told me that he made a strong tea with ivy and had the child soak her hand in there and he says that within a few days her hand was almost completely healed. I also used that solution with salt to soak a badly infected finger where the infection was starting to go up my arm and the next day my finger was back to normal, but the skin was still a bit dark because the finger had gotten really swollen and dark and pounding and painful. All was gone after one afternoon of frequent soaks. I have also read about the respiratory benefits and what I do is put one or two leaves in my tea when I have a cold, but I'm thinking of making a tincture just for the respiratory system effect. I have also made little cloth bags with ivy leaves and applied them to my achy areas under a tight garment and it has relieved my pain after a few applications. The only pain where it didn't seem to help was my elbow pain. I agree with you too it's difficult to find information about english ivy. Have a great day

My pulmonary Dr needs to start recommending things that work like these. I'm so tired of using the puffer and nebulizer to clear out my breathing. My grandma used to make mullein cough syrup with horehound candy in it. Gosh I hated that flavor but love it now. I just got some mullein plants to make mine. I froze my first elderberry harvest this year to make that syrup too. Covid in 2020 ending with pneumonia set me way back for 19 month coughing. Stopped coughing for 2 whole months before getting Covid the 2nd time ending up with bronchitis. 5 months later Covid #3 got me with bronchitis again. 2 1/2 months later my mom passed with covid and I got it the 4th time. Spent months using the nebulizer but it did prevent any further lung issues. I've made it 4 months now and not as much coughing as before. But I have to use my puffer daily to breathe clear and alot of my bee's honey for cough. I can't swallow the big expectorant pills. I see the lung Dr in 2 weeks for my next checkup. After that I wanna get going with my propolis tincture, elderberry syrup and mullein syrup. I have plenty English ivy growing in my yard so I'll be making this now too. I just wanna cough and breathe better. I've studied hive air therapy in Scandinavia and plan to start that now too but not sure how well sitting by my hives in the cold and putting the screened tube in each hive entrance will work since they seem to be flying almost every day. Can't plug up their entrance unless I do it early before they start flying. They're flying in the 40s lately. Anyway thanks for giving me a use the this what I thought was an annoying vine.

@@dixiecook2264 My daughter got me some in 2020 with my first covid. Few drops under the tongue. There's gotta be a better way to take it as it took my breath away. She and my grandson take if everytime they feel a tickle and they never get sick. He gets a mouth full of my honey to wash his down. They just do it for immunity. If it helps the lungs I will get it and take it again as I'm willing to work on this. Cutting it with almond oil just might work. So you're taking a dropper full of oregano oil with all that almond oil so still taking same amount of oregano oil as your husband or less?

My sister forages for mullein and plantain, dries it out in the oven with very low heat (she doesn't have a dehydrator), and crumbles it up into a mason jar. When anyone in her family starts to feel something coming on, she makes tea with it. During cold and flu season when things are going around, they just drink a cup of the tea every day to ward off the nasties. It works really well for her family, without the extra time and effort of making tinctures and such.

The back half of our property has been overrun w/English ivy. In an effort to push it back, me and my teenager spent an evening trying to cut it back. While I wore gloves, and treated it carefully as you would poison ivy, my kid disregarded my warnings and ripped into it bare handed. A few days later she had blisters and welts all over her hands. I didn't realize it could cause a reaction such as that. To be safe I would suggest performing a topical test and see if you have a similar type reaction before using it internally.

slippery elm is also good for coughs. layer the plant matter and alcohol in the jar for complete saturation. Oh and don't press down on your scale like that, you could damage it and get inaccurate measures. Hi. enjoying your presentations, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to weigh things like ivy leaves (and other ingredients) for the sake of consistency in production? You are pretty specific about the amounts of fluids you use e.g., water, but when it comes to dry ingredients (in particular gathered ingredients like ivy leaves) viewers are left to guess how tightly they're packed into jars as a means of 'guesstimating' quantity and therefore, in all likelihood, potency of the final product.
