If you want some extra tastiness, you can throw a D7 between the Am and G as a passing chord, or even spicier a Ab7 (tritone substitution)
@ikwenmusic

yup the second option also makes the bassline completely chrmomatic if you voice your chords correctly
@mitchellguido4463

I would use an Ab7 (dominant, not major). The resolution from minor to dominant to finally a major 7 makes the G sound even sweeter. But there's certainly nothing "wrong" with Abmaj7 there, just personal preference

@@starrk7158 Appreciated!! I normally play them in the positions you mentioned first; 5th, 3rd, and 6th. Also, I play the Bbmaj7 for half a bar and switch to BbMaj13 to sound more like Best Part (When playing Best Part). I find people never mention that which is the best part, for lack of a better word, in my opinion. lol Anyway, I haven't tried playing them up the neck. Which is probably something only amateurs, such as myself, don't think to do.😅 Thanks a lot. I'll give it a shot!

Use this progression and write a new melody over it. This is a common practice in music called "contrafact." See Rhythm Changes and how many songs use the exact chord structure. Key isn't important in these examples, it is structure.
