Your videos are so smooth, professional and enjoyable. I've come upon a couple you tubers who talk so much about random stuff and move the camera around aimlessly. The homes they show are cluttered and they barely let the owner speak. It's very painful to watch. I have to mute it and fast forward to get it moving along. It drags. One tiny home was gorgeous. Your videos are truly awesome and enjoyable. Sorry for venting here.

Would be great if the bed in the A frame was on wheels so you could push it out onto the deck in good weather and have more space. Maybe have a collapsible table you could put up when it's outside. Also In hot weather have a cover to put on the plastic screen so you have more shade on hot days if the trees don't give enough protection from the sun.

@thehohnstead
Ай бұрын
Winters are typically very snowy BUT sunny. As far as the wildlife, mostly deer and wild turkeys. Elk from time to time. The occasional curious and harmless black and brown bears. We've only seen mountain lion maybe three times on the property in 14 years and that was an exotic treat. Such an elusive and majestic animal! Ah, wildfires and not wildlife. Yeah, fires sucks. We do regular clearing to take out small and sickly trees. Burn in the spring and fall. We have a small fire truck. We do the best we can and hope for the best.

Do you use no dig method and mulch your garden with wood chip? That would improve the soil. Also have you considered an agroforest garden in a small scale?
@thehohnstead

Yes! We are slowly building up our soil with permaculture techniques (hugel stuff, comfrey, cover crops, etc). This was filmed in early June. We had a winter weather advisory June 15th (couldn't plant most everything until after that). The garden is currently looking great!

Affordable cabin builds......because land is free of course! And you can't get a mortgage for land, that I know of. Either way, you buy something, a lot of money is exchanging hands, and the banks profit. Bottom line. Nice video and builds though. Thanks.

There is nothing worse for roofing than metal, especially in dark colors! In the strong sun heats up so that you can fry eggs on it) and in the rain - rattles like a gang of drummers) It would be better to make everything out of conveyor belt) Also under the thin metal roof sometimes forms - condensation, and can even drip as if the roof is leaking) And I do not know how in all projects open wide windows without mosquito nets in the forest where there are a lot of mosquitoes!...

I usually do not comment but please tell us where the money came from to buy that mountain grade property? Tired of watching trust fund children "rebelling" by living an idillic lifestyle when the rest of us are grinding it out in the real world. Btw, hose cabins will cook in the summer and freeze in the winter so its a 4 month arrangement at best. And good luck with those bears!
@thehohnstead

We worked overseas for 14 years to afford this property. As mentioned in the video, it was bare land, had no electricity and there wasn't even a road so it was affordable. People thought we were crazy when we bought it. Now that we developed it bit by bit, people say they wished they had done what we had done. Of course, this is only after a majority of the hard work has been finished. For the first seven years, we worked according to the sun (remember the no electricity part?). For the last seven years, we've built up our glamping hosting business to help fund more projects and fuel that "idyllic lifestyle" you referenced. This is literally the antithesis of a trust fund.
