Saw Lyle Lovett in Cardiff St David's Hall in the early 90's. Only about 8 or 10 of us were in the audience. Bless him, he called everyone to the front of the stage and performed the most intimate concert. He was absolutely brilliant and even played requests, I asked for 'This old Porch'. Wonderful man, wonderful musician. 👍🏴

I saw him in Kalamazoo once, while noodling, Leo made a comment about getting lost in the noodling that was somewhat suggestive. In a pause, I spoke out with a loud sigh "Will you marry me?" He answered, with a sigh, "It's complicated." And then went straight into the next song.

True story; I was into Leo early in his career and went to Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama, about 1973, ‘74. Just Leo, a 6-string and a 12-string. After his awesome concert we were leaving and a guy in the row ahead of us commented, “Man, I’d love to have that guitar.” His date looked over her shoulder back at him and said, “Yeah, like that would help.”

I saw Lyle and Leo at Chastain Park in Atlanta at around this same time. Leo played first and when he was introduced the announcer said, "And now, tonights opening act, Leo Kotke." Before Kotke started playing Lyle came out, took the microphone and said, "I have a correction to make--the great Leo Kotke doesn't open for ANYBODY. He's first on tonight's bill, and we'll close out the show together." Lyle might be the most humble man in popular music, and he and Leo are always worth seeing, alone or together!

I once talked to Leo in a airport for almost 20 min. I had no idea who he was until he boarded his flight and a lady came and sat next to me and asked me if I knew who that was. I said nope then she told me. I never heard of him but I played guitar too but that day I was just leaving after graduation for a job in Manhattan. I was scared and awkward so he may have noticed that. Then I began to find out about him and been a fan ever since.

Awesome to see this vid of these two stars back when they were young. Lyle was just emerging as a "name", Leo was well-traveled and exploding with music. They traded back and forth on who opened for whom in their concerts over the next several years, and they were both excellent. While I was an instant fan of Lyle's singing, through that gash of a mouth, I was always an ardent fan of Leo's smooth bass voice in his own vocal numbers. Two wonderful talents, each on his own tangent of artistic travel.

Been a huge fan of both Leo and Lyle since they first emerged on the music scene. Saw them both many times. Most recently I saw Lyle with John Hiatt last year. Back in the 90's my mother sent me a 1927 studio portrait of herself as a baby with her parents. I told my wife 'My God! My grandfather looked just like Lyle Lovett when he was young!' The resemblance was amazing. Even the hair. I had never mentioned Lyle to my mother, and thought about calling her to tell her who Lyle was and about the resemblance. Then I turned the photo over and on the back Mom had written 'Me and my folks. Not Lyle Lovett.'
