Today I'm breaking down yet another Southern California Criterium Race that took place in Costa Mesa, CA this past weekend. Crit Racing is usually a battle of sprinters but in this particular case it was relentless attacking and chasing a 3X National Time Trial Champion who rolled the solo break away from around 10 minutes into the race.
I talk through my role in this crit race as I ride for Julian, the team sprinter and try and keep the race together to the best of my abilities. After battling some sort of upper respiratory sickness I was able to come back and race pretty successfully doing my second best power output for one hour (all-time).
Needless to say this race was HARD. It was single file for most of it and there was really no moment where we let off the gas. Let me know what you guys think I could've done better in the comments down below. Of course, hindsight is 20/20 but I'm always curious how I can improve as a newly minted Category 2 criterium racer.
Special shout out to Majestic Cycling for hosting such a great event and criterium race so easy to access from San Diego up in Costa Mesa.
Also a huge shout out to Ray Marz with LA Crits at LACrits.com for the live streamed footage.
Finally, another huge shoutout for Logical Photo coming in clutch with the thumbnail and all the awesome race photos on the day.
