Sometimes art transcends commentary and just needs to be experienced...really enjoyed your raw reaction...this isnt typically a genre people associate with this level of emotional impact. And as tough as the subject matter of the videos are, i know for me, being someone who has lost a close family member to the effects of inner turmoil on this scale, i find it comforting to see that it is becoming less and less taboo to talk about publicly. Seeing yourself in someone elses story can be a very powerful thing. As far as i am concerned, this masterpiece is a gift to the world, as sad as it is.

when will joined Lorna Shore he tells Apple Music. “I had a million different ideas but wasn’t sure what to do. In the end, the band was like, ‘Do whatever feels most comfortable.’” Their advice paid off when the EP’s “To the Hellfire” went viral. So, Ramos trusted his instincts when it came time to write lyrics for Pain Remains. “I wanted to write an adventure that starts with the first song and ends almost back at the beginning with the last song,” he explains. Inspired by some of his favourite anime and manga, Pain Remains is a concept album that takes place in a dreamworld created by someone who wants to escape their reality. “A lot of deathcore albums are about anger and ‘fuck this, fuck that’-very monotone,” Ramos notes. “I wanted to do something that creates an emotion that, maybe, you haven’t felt in a long time.” Below, he discusses each track. “Welcome Back, O’ Sleeping Dreamer” “There’s a narrator explaining the potential of dreams and lucidity, the opportunity for exploration of the infinite and a deeper dive into the human psyche. The whole song is about falling into this place that feels familiar, but it’s somehow not familiar at the same time. It’s a concept album, so this is the first chapter.” “Into the Earth” “This is where the character starts to realise that they’re lucid dreaming-and they’re able to control almost all of this world that’s around them. In the first song, they’re falling into place. In this one, they’re becoming aware of their abilities. Lucid dreaming-becoming aware of dreaming during the dream-is one of the hardest things to do. Usually, when you do that, you wake up immediately. But this person is realising they can manipulate their dreamworld.” “Sun//Eater” “In this one, the character starts to realise that they’re almost like a god. When you start to lucid-dream, you become the god of your dreams. You can control everything. The chorus talks about being omnipotent: ‘I am the one/Icarus/I’ll touch the sun,’ whereas Icarus could not touch the sun. He tried so hard. In this song, the person is saying, ‘These are the things I’m going to do.’ It’s optimism. ‘I want to create. This is where I’m at.’” “Cursed to Die” “In this song, the character is fully immersed in a dreamlike state. After realising that they’re a god in the last song, now the person who controls this dream universe ends up making people in his own image, so he’s not alone in this world. He’s creating man, essentially, from his memories. He’s basically just trying to fill a void inside that can’t be filled. At this point, he starts second-guessing everything. ‘Did I do this for fulfilment? Am I feeling fulfilled?’ He’s not exactly sure. But he’s learning that reality is whatever you make it to be.” “Soulless Existence” “This is where the main character, who has become the god of his own world, starts to realise that there is no point. ‘I’ve done all this shit, and I’m still not happy.’ His emptiness is filling up this world. He himself is nothingness. He’s lost his purpose. He’s found no significance in himself or anything that he has created. He’s lost. He starts to feel like he’s in an endless, almost inescapable purgatory. The lyrics are basically saying he’s in a place where nobody could ever find him.” “Apotheosis” “The character starts to see something in the distance that gives him a glimpse of hope. It may be a person or a thing, but he sees the light at the end of the tunnel. He’s like, ‘This is going to be fine. Everything is going to work out.’” “Wrath” “When we were putting the album together, this one got moved around. ‘Wrath’ was supposed to be before ‘Apotheosis’ in the story, but the songs flowed better sonically this way. The song is about being pissed and wanting to destroy everything. He’s basically at the point where he wants to see the world he’s created go down in flames. But, like I said, this was supposed to be before he finds any glimpse of hope. So, the story is a little jumbled here.” “Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames” “I used to have dreams where I would have this fantastic relationship with somebody, and I can’t even tell who this person is at all because that’s how dreams are. Unfortunately, you can’t make out a lot of things-dreams are so vague. But in your mind, it makes sense. You’re falling in love, and then you’ll wake up from the dream and be like, ‘Shit, that never really happened at all. This sucks.’ In the story, the character has a moment like this. They begin to love in their dreams, which returns meaning to their dreamworld. But they can’t quite find solace.” “Pain Remains II: After All I’ve Done, I’ll Disappear” “He’s beginning to realise that, after everything, he’s at the end of this whole world he made. It’s all a ghost in the breeze, like fading memories. He wants to disappear, to escape from this dreamworld.” “Pain Remains III: In a Sea of Fire” “This is the conclusion, but it’s also the part where he is most angry. He’s at the bottom of the barrel and desperate. The world he made, he’s going to burn it all down and disappear. He’s ready to go back to wherever it was that he came from. It’s the idea that God has left us and the world he made. He’s bored, he’s sad and nothing he’s done has brought him any purpose. So, he leaves the world and goes back to the reality he came from. The ending is a bittersweet tragedy.”

I think I saw these 3 Pain Remain videos like a billion times and those faces in the video are so stuck in my head I hardly can imagine someone else playing those roles. They've chosen the perfect people to do this videos with. It makes you care a ton and that's all that matters. It makes you run to your significant other and hug her for an hour constant (make sure she can still breath though :p). I can't imagine after being together for almost 20 years to have an experience like this, it's a nightmare. I think I couldn't continue without my partner. Hell no, just the thought gives me chills. These videos hit hard as a rock, they make you fear aswell. Thanks for reacting and staying real. Tears are the beauty from your inside coming out to show up and say high. They show eachother that we are a beautiful person filled with warm emotions and love rather than being rotten to the core with a dead frozen cold blackened heart. Talking about a masterpiece, damn!

Definitely, my friend. Watching and hearing this trilogy, even if it is all a dream and fabrication of the protagonist (I've since learned from you awesome Lorna Shore fans) it still makes you think and fear the worst. But it also makes you, as you said, reach out to the nearest person and want to hug them. It makes you appreciate the little things. It makes you re-evaluate everything and weigh up what's really important. Not many songs and bands can do that. I'm so grateful I got to experience this and it would never have happened had I not started making music reaction videos. And I thank people like you and others viewers for persuading me to make this video too 🙏

@@melvinthinks I think I do understand and agree. I think it's the beauty of modesty. Reality rather than striving for perfectionism. Watching the world through the eyes of the majority of people rather than those who live next to them and don't know what's going on on half of the planet. Nobody's perfect, only the (shared/public) idea of an ideal people believe in might be. And that's why it's always a good thing that part of that majority of people is being put in the spotlight. So does this video. Everyone is unique anyway.

If i remember right, these bits are from Will Ramos and what the songs are about “Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames” “I used to have dreams where I would have this fantastic relationship with somebody, and I can’t even tell who this person is at all because that’s how dreams are. Unfortunately, you can’t make out a lot of things-dreams are so vague. But in your mind, it makes sense. Tbh, I struggle to connect with this trilogy of songs and videos, not because of the lyrical themes or the plot, but because of the way it is presented. The subject matter in itself is enough to make an impact - I mean, the death of a loved one, suicide, kinda hard to not feel the weight of those subjects - but I have to say that the presentation of these themes in the music of Lorna Shore is incredibly melodramatic. To me, the difference between being affected by subject matter and being affected by the musical/visual treatment of it is pretty significant, and I find Lorna Shore's music to be too consistently "loud" and explosive and maximalistic to really make me feel much. The drums are turned up to 11, there's kind of jarringly uplifting, symphonic choruses, guitar solos played in the rain and snow CERTAINLY doesn't help, and there's even a whispered section to make en easy contrast to the absolute batshit insanity and brutality that rules elsewhere in the music. There IS such a thing as too much of a good thing, and Lorna pack their music with so much loudness and drama that it kind of becomes white noise to me after a song or three. I don't want to diminish anybody's response to the music - especially people using it to cope with their own experiences/circumstances - but I felt like jotting down my two cents on the matter anyways. Nice video and reflections, regardless!

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I will never enforce my feelings of a song or band upon anyone. I get some serious abuse sometimes when I react to a song and say "I don't like it", or "it's just not my thing". Check out my Polyphia video! lol Fair play to you for being honest. Not sure how well it will go down with other people reading this 😀 but it opens up a conversation and debate, for sure. Really weird i find this trilogy for the first time now. He said the story is about a lucid dream where he meets the girl of his dreams and makes his perfect world with her. But when he wakes up shes just a depressing fleeting memory. Then realizes it doesnt mean anything so he destroys it by burning it down. I have lucid dreams almost every night. I also have a world with reoccurring characters i interact with, women who love me. And when i wake up, its back to reality... Ill spend like an hour just lingering on what occurred over night feeling a mix of depression and happiness. I dont know if this is something Will has experienced personally, or its just a story, but this is such a reality for me i didnt think anybody else could ever relate with these kind of experiences. People know i lucid dream, but i have never told anybody the extent of it.
@wolfinthesno

The trilogy is even more incredible when you take in the whole album. So when you hear it as you have, by its self, the trilogy has one meaning, but taken in with the rest of the album it has an ENTIRELY different meaning. There are a few callouts to the rest of the album, but the important one to take in comes in part 3 when will says "Fuck this existence, Bring me back to where it all began in the fall, Wake me up before I lose it all", which is a call back to the first song on the album. Simplest way to tell the story, Our protagonist is dreaming. This was a man so disillusioned with the world that he decided to create a world within his dreams. "Welcome back o' sleeping dreamer" Is the opening track and says "Welcome this blessing and fall into lucidity, Like clay in the mud, sculpting the plunge, Embracing the world and becoming the one, The architect, benevolent, accepting the material, World as enslavement, a fetter, a servant, But here in this place you are attunement Welcome back, welcome back oh sleeping dreamer, Embrace the fall". Essentially this song is him creating his new world, and the rest of the album is his experience within the dream, culminating in the trilogy. Seeing it this way means that nothing that you see in the trilogy is "True" In the sense that you know it without the context of the album. Essentially, he began to become disillusioned with his dream world the same as the real world, and when that happened it began to fall apart, the trilogy is the dream falling apart, and him burning the house down is him waking himself up from the dream. Seeing it in this context also makes some of the more difficult lines to parse (For me at least), easier to digest. The line "You were a shackle..." Hits me wrong if i take it without the context of the album, but with it, its less....cold? Lol anyways great reaction dude. Do the whole album now, Starting with "Welcome Back o' Sleeping Dreamer"!

I have listened to whole album since but more from a musical standpoint vs analysing the lyrics. So this is cool insight 👍 As you say, this knowledge does bring a very different view to the trilogy and makes it somewhat easier to emotionally digest. But I also don't think the song/s would have the same effect (for me personally) had I listened to it in album sequence first. So I'm definitely glad I've done it this way 🙂

I see a slightly different interpretation of the album. I don't see the dream world as crumbling, that's the crumbling of The Protagonists mind, which is basically Soulless Existence, Apotheosis, and Wrath, and in Part I of the Trilogy, The Protagonist finds a love that literally disappears before their eyes. This causes The Protagonist to experience fully the despair of their situation and they try and burn the dream world down to get back to reality. This is why there is so much triumph in the chorus of Part II, it's more a call to action. In the end I think it's left unclear whether our Protagonist makes it back to reality or not. I am really curious if Will got the inspiration for this story from Inception.
@wolfinthesno

@@ThaBeatConductor Will has stated more or less that they wrote the story based off of an anime, but they never said which one, and I think it's more implied that it was an anime, they wanted to write. Adam, the guitarist you see doing the guitar solos, came up with the concept of this album and it reflected alot of what he was going through at that time. Their individual skill levels independent of each other is impressive, putting them all together is just insane. Interesting fact, the bass player, Michael, is actually a drummer and then when asked if he would be apart of Lorna Shore he had to learn the bass parts in some insane amount of time (i believe a couple weeks). Austin, the dummer, talked about how quickly Michael picked it up and just fit . Will was brought in in a similar fashion but he had been doing extreme vocals in several bands he was apart of prior. I have no clue how Will just goes and goes and goes.
@melvinthinks

Well, we always talk about how the "drums and bass need to lock in with one another" so if you've got a multi instrumentalist that understands both, it will only work in the bands favour. I also think drummers who switch to a 4 or 6 stringed instrument approach it slightly differently which makes for a more percussive and rhythmic approach. Now that you've told me this, Jessica, I'll be paying more attention when I listen out! 👍

Binge watching my channel?!? I'm honoured 😁 I did Will covering Chokehold a little while back and that was my first experience of his clean vocals. I definitely wanna (and will do) some more of his one take stuff. I definitely want to do Sun/Eater in some form too. And from what I've heard, Lorna Shore are amazing live, so you will have a great time in September 🤟🤟🤟
