It's almost as though a bunch of strikes, all sharing common grievances and necessities to live, could all be labeled under a single entity. A "general strike" if you will. 🎉
@STElevation
9 ай бұрын
I’m more labour focused / socialist so I may be biased here because most people I meet calling for general strikes tend to be of the anarchist persuasion. Targeted strikes are important sure there are society wide grievances (society wide problems are problems with capitalism in general I guess rather than industry specific. Like we all dislike low pay and rising cost of living but they’re baked into the system we all live under) And yes solidarity action definitely has its place (evidenced by my government making it illegal… they don’t ban things that aren’t effective). But I’m much more a fan of larger strikes by people with more specifically shared interests ie EMS and Nurses striking together (like they did in the UK just recently etc etc) I’m also a big fan of separate strikes occurring Simultaneously each having its own bargaining power and yet sharing the pressure on the government and capital owners. So yeah I like mass strike action. But when that action is joined together at the bargaining table to ask for industry specific things, or maintains it’s bargaining power and shares it’s pressure. General strikes strike me (lol) as more anarchist revolutionary which I love. But a) probably isn’t gonna happen b) probably needs to step through socialism and c) leaves us with a bunch of really great pressure but far less ability to turn that pressure into changes under our current system or for the individual workers needs. And finally general strikes don’t work in either the UK or the US because especially in the US so many people have been robbed of class consciousness that the entire working class thinks they’re not only middle class but also “not poor just temporarily embarrassed millionaires” hyper individualistic capitalism being shoved down their throats since the 60’s is to blame for that.

And it's why I'm staying as a CCMU tech instead of being a nurse tech again and finishing nursing school( I was working on my gen creds first ) it's sad that hospitals are only about $ and barely stabilizing pts. Short staffing nurses and over working techs . There was so much to do and most times I had nurses more concerned with hcaps so that diabetic pt wanting a 10th sherbert even though his gluc is 366 , must cater or else they will write a bad review . Pt is on a 1200 fluid restriction, you report to the nurse and all she can say is chart it . The people who are sick and on insurance don't want care . They just want 3 hots and a cot and pain meds. While those who truly need medical cant afford it .
