This was excellent. One question (maybe more) I have though: Those payday loans, for example, overwhelmingly exist NOT because of hardship but due to irresponsibility and recklessness of the borrowers. I as a Christian could not lend them money out of the kindness of my heart because It would make me a pathetic steward and severely lacking understanding. In this case, the interest rate reflects the high risk. These borrowers lack discipline. How do we as Christians properly encourage the right and biblical way for these reckless ones? How do they cash their checks if not for the "usurers" when no bank is dumb enough to do so?
@cosmictreason2242

It doesn't reflect the risk because not giving a loan is what reflects the risk. Pawn shops reflect the risk. Payday loans are a get rich exploitation scheme
@lenk.4937

@@cosmictreason2242 It's true that there is little risk. They are fronting money on a reliable check, as long as it isn't fraudulent. It is a safe bet, if you can recognize the fraud. But there is still that risk and they are fronting money that no one else is willing to. So this begs the question, how much is fair for a payday loan? It seems that the fees are excessive but where is that line? In ghetto neighborhoods they are on every corner. So if one enterprising businessman can undercut the rest by having a fair fee, why aren't they doing it to take the business?

The problem with home loans is that you can miss your last payment and lose the home. A foreclosed home ought be immediately auctioned and the proceeds used to pay the loan, with the remainder going to the borrower. Modern loans and financials are means to create an overtly criminal technocratic feudal serfdom, a tennant society in perpetual service to the moneyed powers.

I do not think property tax is constitutional. The county, who says they need the tax, could lay off all of the appraisers and most of the clerical office and save bucoos of overhead expense if we did not have a property tax. If the county actually is providing a wanted service to the members of that county, a very small sales tax could be voted on or possibly a small luxury tax. Someone may come up with a better solution, but we property owners have felt liked we are being milked like a cow in a stall anytime the county wants a raise. They might say it is because of inflation. Well, property owners are also affected by inflation. When the county raises your property's value, the property insurance also increases. Property tax is evil.

I never pay more than the sale price of goods because i never have to pay monthly interest. Something else Doug didn't mention in this video is leveraging debt. Deuteronomy 15:6 is best understood in context with Deuteronomy 28:44. The former is a covenant blessing, while the latter is the corresponding covenant curse. Idolatry is the sin that triggers the curse (and all the other covenant curses), and belief/faith is followed by covenant blessing. These are lasting principles for God's people, who take His Name. He won't hold guiltless anyone who takes His Name vainly - there will be covenant curses when that happens. The culmination of these curses occurred in AD 70, but Christ is Risen. His gospel points to real liberty from these enslaving things - bought without money. Ideally, the church ought to be loaning to the nations, and applying just weights and measures and grace and mercy when it does. There's your postmil ideal. And I'm not even qualified to outline it for you, because I'm a-mil. 😆
