I feel like saying anything is blindness is just crazy. We all did what we thought looked “good” at the time! Trends come and go, so yes, we all had phases but it’s just fine!

Trends come and go. What we thought looked amazing in 1985 may not look so good today. I'm not sure it's "blindness." You had a great point about feeling great about how you look at that time. You looked beautiful in your prom photos❤❤

I just found you, have watched a couple of videos already & I love your content! I'm also obsessed with how you use a makeup brush as a microphone; I just like it a lot. And I just wanted to say I think you look gorgeous in that outfit (especially the earrings and the sparkly inner corner that matches the earrings!) and the makeup as a whole ^^

I graduated high school on 2012 which means the age of the beauty guru had barely begun and I definitely wasn't their audience member. With that in mind I don't think I had "blindness" because if I disliked it in photo there's a guarantee I hated irl. I wore makeup only for myself and I kind of miss the creative drive I had in middle and high school that wasn't based on anything other than the thought "this is cute". Like I used to put these leftover cell phone (2007 flip phone) gems on the corners of my eyes every day. I had a stencil that I'd basically put art shapes on my cheeks. I would two tone my eyeshadow and eyeliner (which was mostly because my mom didn't want me wearing black eyeliner). It was a mini art project for me. I didn't really start having "blindness" until foundation entered the equation and that was simply because I just knew it as a product people put on rather than it's function. So because of that I didn't wear foundation until like 2020 and the photos I hate of myself before the are of my flat foundation face because highlight and contour weren't really concepts to me until 2017 and weren't very accessible to me as black woman. Like Fenty was the only bronzer I could use in 2020 because of how few existed. The tips and tricks of using other products as bronzer were barely a concept to me because I was learning it all to begin with. I won't even get into shades because I always had to mix which was especially noticeable with no other products adding dimension. So now as a 30 year old where I'm getting the skin issues I got to skip as a teenager, I understand my skintone and undertone more, I have a lot more fun with complexion than I once did because instead of it being the products I think you're supposed to have, I know what I'm trying to achieve with them.

@ellerchu I think context is also really important. Does it seem cringe when putting it against photos today? Maybe, but if you put it against photos of that time you'll find that you quite slayed the look. And I say that who was a 13/14 year old during the original MySpace Emo kids so I know phases.

I really related to what you said about make up not being authentic to you. Following recommendations without knowing my own colours were my worst looks. I mean, you can't figure it out without trying, but taupe really is not my shade haha. I thought your homecoming pictures looked completely fine tbh, don't talk down on yourself. You know more now, but you still looked pretty. Loved your take on this btw, and am always pleasantly surprised by the quality of your content. Really like your calm demeanor and your editing Edit: you talked about learning techniques for your eye shape, I'd love to see you talk more detailed about what you do differently

Yeah I feel you. Finding the authentic version of yourself can also take time! I wasn’t putting myself down in the photos, it was more constructive feedback to my past self - because there were just things I didn’t know at the time (and that’s okay lol). ♥️

I think makeup “blindness” isn’t all that big of a deal when you believe that the makeup looks good on you and carry it with confidence. Most people just see your makeup as your own style, I’ve never found myself thinking someone else had a makeup blindness. If they have something standout in their makeup, I’d rather just think “oh that’s her unique thing!”

Can't believe people are defending terms like 'makeup blindness' given their misogynistic origins being from men ridiculing womens makeup online, besides I think its a little weird to use the term blindness when no visual impairment is even involved. Its kind of disrespectful to people who are actually blind

I literally had eyebrow blindness but still am kind of forced to maintain it BECAUSE I always shave(d) them thinner and thinner and I am currently at a point where my friends point it out bc it’s so bad😭 but if I want to grow the out I’ll look like a homeless man for 6+ weeks but I will do it now, I’ll only shave a teeny tiny bit where it goes like really thick
