@JohnDoe-pf6qp
4 жыл бұрын
@@jeffersongarcia8257 Sure there are. If you're a decent student you can find a lot of money in scholarships and grants both public and private. You could take time after high school to work and save before entering college. Which would give a prospective student time to figure out what they want to accomplish in college. Student loans are definitely out there to make up shortfalls as well. Doing things like getting most of your general education credits out of the way at a community college also helps to reduce costs. There are a lot of choices beyond joining the military. If you're not a decent student I would really encourage you not to do something you're going to hate for years to pay for something that you have low probability of completing anyway. In fact I'd say this cultural notion we've been pushing for the last 30 years that everyone needs to go to college is one of the stupidest ideals of all time. Sure it's great for the university's bottom line but the reality is four year degrees have become so common their value in the employment market is dropping every year. While at the same time demand and the availability of student loans has massively inflated the price of a college education.

The worst part for me is the ADSO (active duty service obligation). You get one for almost anything. You wanna transfer your GI Bill to your spouse or kids? 4 year ADSO. PCS OCONUS? 2 years. PCS CONUS? 1 year. Got a promotion? ADSO. See where I'm going with this? In a 20 year career you barely get a few years where you're actually free to leave. (This is on the Warrant Officer and Commissioned Officer side)
@tibivaslo
4 жыл бұрын
@Matti Luopajärvi here's the problem with this. Why do you think they came up with the idea of an ADSO in the first place? Because the attrition rate is astronomical. Only about 11% I think actually end up serving 20 years and retiring. Most get out after their first enlistment (3-5 years usually). They COULD just increase the quality of life: increase pay, decrease additional duties (i had 5 of them both as a sergeant and even when I became a warrant officer), and also figure out a way to kick out toxic leaders. I had one too many incompetent commanders.

Hi Chris! My husband and I are preparing to enlist in the US Army in the next couple weeks. He is 32 and I am 28 - we both have our bachelors degrees. Also, I believe we are entering as E-3s or E-4s because of our college experience. Is there anything we should know, going in as "older" enlistees? Will rank effect our experience at basic training or AIT? Also, we are planning to do different MOS's but our recruiter said regardless of MOS we will be stationed together after AIT - do you know if that's true in most cases? Thank you!!
@christopherchaos

So with a bachelor's degree you should be going in as E-4s. Likely that will mean they might make you be in charge of the Platoon in basic or in AIT. Be ready for "old" jokes. You will be with a lot of 18 year old and anything near the 30s is old to them. Lol. Being married they will keep you guy stationed together. Because your going to be different MOS's you could end up in different units. The the only thing that can suck with that is you might go to the field at different times and be separated or deploy and be separated. But they will keep you guys stationed at the same installation. Good luck to you guys.

Thanks for posting this video! Super enlightening stuff here. I had one question: My understanding is that a DISCHARGE--be it honorable or dishonorable--completely relieves you of ANY commitment to your original contract. A SEPARATION, by comparison, merely means that you're no longer on active duty but your 8 year (or longer) contract is still in effect and you still owe the army the balance of your contract in the reserves. Is this correct? If so, is honorable discharge a realistic goal for a recruit? And if so what's the best way to go about pursuing one? 8 years is a long time.

@@scottwarwick7514 Yes, you are still required to salute an officer of another branch. If you are lower enlisted you will still go to parade rest for a nco (aka sergeant) of another branch. And higher ups in one branch can still order lower ranks of another branch around. The ranks of the branches still work pretty much the same and get paid the same even if they go by different names (like "petty officer" in the navy). @JohnDoe-pf6qp
4 жыл бұрын
You can't just quit in basic. What can happen if you're a waste of space is entry level separation, but that still comes from up the chain of command if the decision is made to separate you from the Army. It should also be noted that just because you have less than 180 days of service you are not guaranteed an ELS discharge. Thus if you think acting up early on will get you an ELS you may well find you still end up with a conduct or other than honorable discharge. Would not recommend that course of action. Typically if you are just not hacking it during BCT and it is decided all other options are exhausted you'll be given an entry level separation discharge. Which means there wasn't enough time to characterize your service as good or bad and you get your walking papers. You aren't eligible for any sort of benefits and for all intents and purposes it's as if you never were in the Army.

It's all about what MOS they need. You don't get to pick your unit but being airborne will help a little with your chances.

I've got bad teeth. Can anyone tell me if that would completely DQ me if I wanted to join the army? Is there anyway around it?

Good video, I am a retired E-7 from active and reserve service and had a son that was a soldier, sorry recruiters, but unless somebody has a specific goal to get training and experience then separate honorably, I cannot advise a young person to serve the incoming Democratic administration and the people who voted them in, their values are counter to duty, honor, and country of the proud US Military, integrity starts at the top

As a kilo which hardly gets used in their capacity, you will also be an electrician and carpentry masonry specialist.

Leland Gaunt thanks for replying. I want to learn how to work with my hands all 3 of thos which is fine with me. Would you recommend this mos to learn working hands on ? What is day to day life like as a 12K? And do I earn any certificate from being a 12K, Or even crosstraining as a electrician or carpenters ? Thanks !

Nathan Castillo All three romeo and whiskey are decent mos’s, the only certificate you will receive (I use that loosely) will be a certificate of training for your mos. no certifications are given by the army.

What makes you qualified to talk about this? I don't think you were a recruiter.
