The go slow then go slower is the best tip. I give that same advice to people new to tear dropping. I had to figure it out myself. Don't let people intimidate you into rushing. The thumb tip is great, but it is reference to the bottom of the steering wheel for clarity. great videos.

Great minds think alike 😉 I always thought that if I was good, I was fast. That line of thinking went out the window pretty quickly. And you’re right! I’ve just gotten so used to the thumb trick that it’s become second nature. That’s why I thought I’d put in a clip just in case I forgot something. Obviously I did. Thank you for joining along with us.

A good tip on using an action camera as a backup aid. When I had an 18 ft teardrop style travel trailer, and I was backing into a smooth / paved area, I would get the trailer as close as possible to where I wanted it to be and my wife and I would push it the rest of the way. It took a bit of huffing and puffing, but it got the job done. Backing up definitely takes some time to master and with some patience and a bit of practice it gets easier over time.

Thank you! It was a total lightbulb moment for me when I was looking at the cost of buying one. And you are absolutely right about the time and practice needed to at least be kind of good at it. I tell King that I'm going to bring his harness and he can pull it into the sites. I've spent enough time shoving it into place myself, I figure he can take turn. Luckily he knows I'm kidding. ;)

Indeed. There is no need to rush whatsoever. I live on a long narrow street. My neighbors are very courteous when they have to wait for to give them some room to pass. A wave and a smile goes a long way.

It’s remarkable how far a smile and wave will take you. I even do it to the road ragers when I’m not going 20 over the limit. 😁

exactly correct about turning so easily.. the closer the axle to the wheels, I believe is what I heard, the faster the trailer will turn... just takes tons and tons of practice, I should know

Great tips and I do hate backing! I'd love a tear drop, but I don't think my family would use it enough to justify buying one.

I live in Maine and although it’s been a mild winter overall, still too much snow and mud on the roads. But I did find a parking lot that is vacant to practice in when spring arrives ! Ty again

I am used to backing up 30ft trailers. I take posession of my teardrop in about a month. Something tells me I am in for a squirrely time backing it up. Thanks. Stay safe and God bless.

I am so excited to hear that you're getting your trailer soon. I've heard from A LOT of people who are used to big trailers that they found teardrops more challenging because they are so small and wiggly. Let me know how it goes. Safe travels!
