I think we should be more accepting and supportive of fat people without putting all the blame on them. But I also think that "body positivity" can often have a negative impact. I think it is short sighted and unhelpful. What matters is finding out what you can change or not about yourself and your unique realities. Get your genome completely typed. This will tell you all sorts of things about diet and health that are pivotal. Optimize your health. Get together with a nutritionist and chef/baker to create ideal recipes that taste just right for you while also matching your health/nutrition needs. Find a hobby you love that has the happy side effect of keeping you fit. Men could chop wood, rock climb and hike instead of going to the gym. Women could dance, do yoga, hike, knead bread, swim and so on. I think most of us would stay fit more easily this way because gyms turn fitness into a chore. Overall this is about practical things and not mere mindset.

On one hand it’s good to embrace where your body is at, because it takes time and effort to make one’s body healthy and hating oneself is not a great motivator. On the other, we must also embrace life habits that are good for us if we want to feel good… I guarantee that if we are eating very unhealthy foods all day that we won’t feel very good. And doing appropriate exercises that are low impact for a body can feel really nice. Losing the weight can feel so much better, movement and daily chores become easier too. It takes so much time though that we can’t be in a place of negativity or we will lose all motivation quickly.

Not sure how quite to say this but I wish we could just healthily convey how to be healthy. Objectively speaking, not all bodies are healthy. Certain body compositions leave you predisposed to health risks. The leading cause of death in America is heart disease; the risk of heart disease drastically increases with an excess of adipose (fat) tissue. I don't like the glorification of unhealthy habits on social media. It's scary living in a country where over half of all adults are obese to see how despite that issue only growing, the concern for it is only being belittled. We should strive to be healthy; but neither physical or mental health should come at the cost of the other.

Thanks for the sarcasm. Yes, I agree we do have control over our own bodies but we don't have control when our body doesn't want to function correctly. A few ppl can't control being fat sometimes due to health issues. I'm not lazy. I've been consistent on working out since I was a teen to adulthood. I eat healthy most times. Self improvement. Regardless, I used to be 128lbs and everybody thought I was too skinny. Then one day I woke up feeling sick, got diagnosed with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) and I was never the same again....180lbs today and they thought I just got fat because I binge eat when it wasn't true. Not fully happy but proud of myself that I do what I can to take care of myself 😁 With hypothyroidism, I have to take medication for life so I can basically live and control my weight. It sucks. I do not restrict myself from unhealthy foods but I control the amount I eat whenever I do consume. Although body positivity is nice, it shouldn't be an excuse for anything. ❤love yourself and take care. Like Selena Gomez says "Be kind to yourself" ❤

I think the only time you can try to gain weight is when you have an ED or you are really slim. I was 5 and I was extremely underweight. My parents did not care at all so I made my OWN diet at the age of 6. I started to eat more and it made me also grow. I set a schedule of when I should sleep which made me grow even taller. After I reached the average weight, I stopped eating a lot and came back to my normal eating habits.

"Why are we still scared to be fat?" Because, despite the science denialism we see nowadays, fat is unhealthy. Full stop. Irrespective of healthy lifestyle being fat is still unhealthy. We know this. The science shows us this to such a degree we even know definitively that just eating healthy foods and being active is not enough to erase the health detriments of obesity. Does it make someone healthier than someone who's fat and doesn't do those things? Yes. But does it make them as healthy as a thin person who does the same? Not even close. I do think we need to divorce health and beauty standards and self worth. These things should be kept conceptually separate, but that doesn't mean lying to ourselves and others to try and force that divorce. People should still feel worthy and beautiful even if they are not healthy because of their bodysize. But there are people who do wish for health, and lying to them is cruelty. By doing this, we remove any agency they would have had in pursuing their goals. As a crass cartoon robot once said "I can tell you anything you want" it doesn't make it true.

Personaly the whole body positiy thing never resonated with me, even when I was myself overweight. I can't help but thinking that these women who are a staircase away from an heart attack are lying to make themselves feel better. How can you love your body and love yourself when your weight prevents you from doing certain things and is a danger to your health? You can't, but it's easier than being an adult and accept responsabily. Let's be honest, unless you suffer from medical condition or are on some medication, you weight is something that you did to yourself, but most people don't want accept than, I know I didn't before. It took me a long time to grow up and lose the extra weight. It was hard, it demanded a lot of effort, it still does but it's so worth it. And it did wonders for my mental health. Not stand out in a crowd, not being the fat friend, I can't even tell you how life changing that feels. Being the fat friend ruined my school experience, it made my life a living hell. I felt like shit all the time, not good enough, I would never express my opinions or contradict someone because I didn't want to draw attention to myself, I forced myself to be extra nice and accomodating, just because I felt like I need to compensate for being fat. It was awful, but instead of doing something to change, I would eat to make myself feel better and ended up hating myself. It was an never ending circle and it did a lot of damages to my self esteem. I guess by reading my comment I could appear fatphobic, and I am in a way, but only about myself. I do have a phobia of being fat again myself, but I don't care about other people bodies. I'm only sharing in hope that some young girl who maybe is in the same situation than I was, know that they're not alone, and that they're people who went through the same thing and understand them :)

there is losing weight the healthy way and there is doing it the wrong way (crash dieting , highly restrictive eating). IF you are already in the healthy range in weight, there is no reason to lose weight. Now, if you are obese, then yes , you most likely should lose weight. If you are losing weight, it needs to be done the healthy way ( proper diet and exercise) and you should not go overboard (becoming underweight). also, healthy weight loss takes time and should be gradual, if you are losing weight too fast, you are not doing it right

In a moderate defense of the women on water tok, a lot of them have had bariatric surgery. Which is a weight loss surgery that drastically reduces the size of the stomach. For the next few weeks and months after the operation, you are restricted to an all liquid diet as your stomach adjusts. Especially since it can't hold almost any solid food. You have to consume around 50 oz of water a day, maybe more. So, in accordance with medical advice, you can add sweeteners and flavoring to the water in case you don't like plain water. Though it is true that some people are using it as like a diet "hack," and that's very unfortunate

I might sound like a hater, but I'm going to give my 2 cents anyway. Your content has contradictory messages. One video, you oversimplify the process of getting healthy and skinny, the next you're saying that social media is toxic and promotes shame and EDs and now you're talking about how, it's not all your fault that you're fat, but it also kind of is. A lot of your videos talk about how losing weight is so simple, just fast intermittently and you can eat a bunch of delicious food. You can love food AND be skinny! This is not possible for most people; you can't have your cake and eat it too. For many women it is physically impossible to have visible abs without being dangerously underweight. What about menopause, what about childbearing and surgeries, what happens to our bodies when these things are part of our lives. I'm not saying that people shouldn't try to take control of their own health, but you don't take enough time and effort to mention the various factors that are out of people's control. Even when you want to exercise and change your diet, it can be the hardest thing a person has ever done. Sometimes it's just not possible. What if you take antidepressants and you can either want to die or you can try to feel okay with a fat body that doesn't go away no matter how much you exercise or how differently you eat. I don't think you spend enough time truly looking into what it's like to be in other people's shoes. There is an example of this in this very video. A few commenters have already pointed out that you never mentioned how "water tok" even started as a trend. It didn't begin as a weight loss thing, and it still isn't for some people.

One thing, slightly of topic, is that I always found it weird that people who are too big to ride certain horses, say they are fat shamed when not being allowed to do so. As someone that owns horses, that seems to be a difficult discussion. Even though it is clearly about the safety and protection of the horse, somehow these topic are not supposed to be talked about. I would not say someone is fat or ugly when they are too heavy for my horse, my horse is just not strong enough (max 20% of his weight rule). Somehow people tend to think that people who set these boundaries are at fault. It's like weight is not allowed to be a factor, whether it is health or in this case the health of a horse. But I know I'm not truly on topic, it just was a thought I got while watching this video.

i think that my issue with the topic is that fatphobia is so often disguised as caring for somebody's health. it's completely hypocritical!! i am sombody who is midsized but always thought of myself as fat because i was slighly larger than the people around me- that is just how my body is built. ive heard countless times that i should try losing weight, mostly from family, but guess what? i am healthy! everything is fine at checkups, i naturally eat less/have a smaller appetite than my skinnier friends, and i stay active relatively regularly. for all intents and purposes, i live a healthier lifestyle than many people i know. could i be even healthier? sure! but it's not anybody's business to judge my health based on what my body looks like. i would love it if people would stop pretending they gave a crap about people's health, because it truly isn't about that.

There are people who actually are just concerned about health. I'm happy for you that you are healthy rn and I have no clue what you mean by midsized, but since a lot of TikTokers claim obese weights to be midsized, I'll go with that definition. Obesity goes with an increased risk for just about any illness, for example heart disease. Idk whether that applies to you, but it's simply wrong to claim that obesity is healthy and people are allowed to voice concerns.

Health isn't always reflected by your pants size. People don't need to be bullied for not being a size 6. A few things I need to say as a plus size person. First, as far as the fat people making unhealthy choices are concerned, it's obvious it isn't healthy. We know it, they know it. Though I do understand the reasoning behind what they are doing, whether or not it is actually effective. Thin people make unhealthy choices all the time and they are seen as down to earth and relatable, But the second a fat person eats something unhealthy, all hell breaks loose and suddenly everyone has an opinion on what they should be eating. Those people are essentially protesting the double standard. If people are either going to criticize unhealthy eating or just let people be, the same energy should be held no matter what your size. And for those of you who want to make a health argument anyway, people of any size can have damaging bodily effects from unhealthy living, and let's be honest. Chances are that you don't know the people you are judging or how healthy they actually are or aren't because you are not their doctor. Second, we definitely all need to learn what a healthy amount of food looks like. I'm not saying all those influencers are actually undereating, but some of them are, and them marketing it as healthy can be damaging to their followers. And to be fair, we can learn what overeating is, though honestly with the scrutiny we face as fat people, the general public probably already have a good idea of what that looks like. Third, for a lot of us, we have trauma due to diet culture, and it can be hard to heal from that if we don't have the right support. And due to our experiences, diet culture and healthy living feel very connected. As such, it can be hard to commit to being a bit healthier without falling into toxic eating patterns. For example, I am on a diet right now and due to this diet, I need to count my carbs and sugar, which is triggering to me since I was made to count calories and fat at a young age, and I worry that when I'm done with the diet, I'll find it difficult to transition back to a healthy and regular amount of carbs. And I'm walking a tightrope with learning to be healthy and one wrong move could send me into a cesspool of self-hatred. And finally, and I know this might get me some hate, I don't want to say that you don't have a voice in this discussion as someone who struggles with body image, but you are straight size and as far as I know, you have always been straight size, so coming from you, your criticism can come off as judgment from someone who doesn't actually know what it's like. As such, this discussion should be led by the people who actually deal with fat prejudice, especially the people who make healthy choices without the intention to lose weight. And I hope that with this discussion, you're willing to listen to our experiences and viewpoints.

Certain types of AFRID would make you gain weight (most think of eating overly healthy but it could also be eating only junk; like man who only eats fries) Not really in the DSM (might qualify for EDNOS) but there are gym bros who focus on getting gains to the point that its an eating disorder.

i might get cancelled or whatever for this but trying to keep a fit body is not done for others, its literally done to live a healthier lifestyle for your own good. nonetheless there are people who have obesity due to medical conditions but if youre not one of them, please try to have self control for YOUR OWN GOOD.

Why every time when it comes to body positivity we talk solely about weight issue? What about other things like acne, thin hair or just facial features that don't meet the beauty standarts at all and are considered "unattractive". I'm not overweight but have so many bad thoughts about me face... All these plus size models do meet ALL THE FUCKING STANDARD exept weight

Too much fat is unhealthy. It's just a fact. Number one killer of people in America is heart disease. Yeh I wonder why... Also everyone's skeleton is pretty much the same other than difference in height or the wideness of hips and shoulders. Also our organs are the same. We are not anatomically equipped to be obese otherwise our body and mind would function the best if we are obese. Some of these people are severly obese and it's not rude to say it's a clinical term and a fact. On the other hand of course too skinny is unhealthy too especially when it's a product of ED. People are so stupid focusing on what's beautiful and be all shallow about it. Just stop with the beautiful this beautiful that. So not important. Would it matter if you were living in the middle of nowhere on your own? Hell no! It only matters because of other people who you don't even know. All these body positivity people acting like they're living their best life while out of breath just by walking 10 minutes. Still seeing validation and want to be called beautiful on the Internet tho. Biggest red flag of insecurity. Like think about the quality of fat people's lives and how long will they be without massive health problems. an abstract and funny thought but would they be able to run away if someone attacked them or climb out of a hole if they fell in one? Like shit happens and to be trapped in a body that can't save you sounds pretty sad to me.

How is maintenance of your diet considered an eating disorder? I can see orthorexia but if I don't eat McDonald's that doesn't make me restrictive, McDonald's doesn't grow on anything so I have the right to decide not to consume it and still be considered normal/healthy.

Body positivity for me was dealing with all the scars on my body from previous mental health issues and also my scar and body shape from my back surgery. The people that took it and made it about fat people… pls. You can be fat and beautiful but don’t shit on smaller people for not being insecure. If you’re gonna post pictures of your fat body good for you, but stop calling it healthy when it’s not. Visceral fat can kill you

I watched that video and it made me see the backlash towards watertok differently. It also showed me how mean people are/were being towards people simply for liking and needing to flavor their water 🤦🏾♀️.

This might just be me but sometimes I think that the sarcasm is sometimes too extreme and gets triggering. I know I don’t have to watch you videos but I really enjoy getting to know your point of view and these topics.

Too much positivity = bad. Support those with different bodies however know the limit of when to support. Don’t support those who are in a self destructive relationship with their body be it overeating or undereating. Calling myself out there with my undereating ed ass

Watertok emerged from bariatric patients due to the volume of water needed to consume in a day, and issues with some patients have with how flavors are perceived post surgery. While related to the general discussion on weight, it would have been nice if that had been mentioned because bariatric patients aren’t drinking all that water to replace meals. It’s an important piece of context.

Eating and body image are incredibly sensitive topics. Restrictive or not, both types of eating can be a form of self-harm, emerged from deep trauma most probably rooted in an abuse of some sort, and such discussion just doesn’t feel neither useful nor helpful for people experiencing these issues. It was triggering to me. I’m sorry i clicked to watch. I couldn’t finish the video as triggers got too high. Even though I enjoy your content I never comment. This time I decided to do so, but it’s a negative one. Sorry for that. No intention to offend or criticize you, just sharing my experience.
