Funny thing is he WAS being a Chelsea mouthpiece for the whole session. “Oh I’ve been told the board knows what they’re doing.” “Oh Tuchel didn’t conduct himself well we were told.” All allegations and hearsay as Martin pointed out but they ride on it like established facts. Especially seeming as the ppl who helped him get to the sad state of affairs are the ones who benefit from the administration and sale. @Mario Lisa don't know about hate but I find his constant attacks in the hope of going viral petty and childish. He goes to personal attacks as a first as he knows his arguments hold no water. He backs the player before even hearing the problems. He believes players should be paid more and play less whereas I agree that if players want more money then they have to play more. So no not a hater just believe his course has been run on ts , like Graham they just attack Simon because he stands by his convictions and most ppl fall on his Jordans side of the argument. Tbh I don't particularly like SJ's charecter but he backs up what he has to say and never runs from a debate

I actually really liked Martin's input on this topic, was getting a bit sick of Simon waxing lyrical about Boehly and Chelsea these past few days with nobody pushing back. He likes to have it both ways sometimes, defends them to the hilt but reverts to "well I don't like their level of spending" when someone questions him on it.

Martin made some valid points but there's also conjecture and hearsay in his statements about the recruitment not involving Potter. However, people like you because of your bias want to believe Chelsea have no plan or pattern to their spending. Chelsea's strategy is to just stop everyone else from buying young talent with high potential. Noni Madueke was touted as going to Man Utd, Mudryk to Arsenal, Cuccurela was a target for Man City, Arsenal were interested in Joao Felix and Denis Zakaria along with Man City. Seems they just roadblocking anyone else from buying any talent.

recruitment is far different to how it was 20 years ago when simon was an owner. hes right, back then the manager would pick most of the players that he wanted but that is not the case anymore. scouting teams and technical directors do most of the signings now, the manager might let them know what "kind" of player they need. For ex, salah was 3rd choice for klopp when looking through the options they gave him but they still got salah in the end.

@Phil Musson What people like you are deliberately ignoring is that Chelsea will sell players in the summer. There are many senior players with a year or 2 left on their contract who will leave at the end of the season. Even academy graduates like Gallagher, Loftus-Cheek will command substantial fees in the summer. Chelsea have just done their summer business in the winter window so as to get their main targets.

Keown should've added more points on the Potter-backing from the board argument. The fans still hold weight in regards to a manager's position in the club no matter the board's stance, a slight majority want Potter out and the fans aren't patient in this rebuild because they're not seeing a style of play and even after the break we don't know what we're getting under Potter. I was begging for him to ask Simon and Jim that but maybe that's because Simon kept cutting him off. Now we wait and see, if you saw Boehly at the stands at Stamford Bridge against Fulham you'll know even though he believes patience is key he'll won't take long to cut losses.

There's only one thing I feel like Simon isn't addressing. While it's great to have 2-3 players in each position, when they come in very quickly and all for various large sums of money, they're all going to want to play. On Potter to find the right setup and soothe anyone not playing every game.

There's something you're both addressing as well, many players in the squad will leave in the summer. Chelsea have basically made their summer acquisitions in the winter window. There's no way they'll be anywhere near this level of spending over the next few transfer windows.

Both have good points. But a team has to grow together and bond. You can put world class players and sometimes it does not work. I think the spend is too much too soon, But I'm sure they will offload some as well. But on tonight's performance, Chelsea need all the help they can get

I'm a chelsea fan & I am well aware that there is an element of risk with what we are doing but frankly I am glad that the new ownership have identified that a major overhaul was needed & fast tracking it without any risk of penalty was really a risk worth taking.. We had fallen behind the likes of city & we haven't really challenged for a league title in years. Now with the money involved in the game & the emergence of teams like Newcastle in the coming years we simply had to act. We couldn't hang around for a 2-3 year project, that might be beneficial for everyone else but they have done what they feel is right for right now.

@Maax1200 the last 'overhaul' that underwent at Chelsea was not only bad but poor. The players brought in just didn't fit what the end model even was. They signed young talented players that didn't fit then signed a major signing by funding it with youth players that didn't get much of the chance they should have. Most of them were cb's that then lead to 2 more cb's leaving on frees. Chelsea were no where near the likes of Liverpool or Man City in terms of the league standings. Positions were completely neglected like midfield, with the only positions the club like targeting were attackers that lack creative or system nouce. Simply put, the last board didn't build structural teams but mishmashes of previous managers. You look at any team before such as Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal-they've overhauled their teams to fit their current direction. The same is happening at Chelsea with owners with a new and fresher approach

Keown is spot on regarding the latest transfers and about Simon's shall I say untypical praising of someone like Boehly. The revirbirations from the sacking of Tüchel, also Boehly's decision btw, is what started this unprecedented spending spree with a 100 million deal for Cucurella and never seen before eight year(!) contracts. As if nobody at Chelsea's boardroom seems to remember the Winston Bogarde farce more than a decade ago. The fall out of these decisions sets Chelsea up for an uphill battle, one that possibly will take a couple seasons I believe to overcome,

@matt I answered your question very easily. Regardless if you think he was average he played in a Liverpool midfield that won 3 cups in one season. Simon as an owner never came close to that… Also Murphy was Fulham’s best player when fulham reached a final. He was a good player with a good career. Many others didn’t win anything

This will either go really well, or really bad , if the signings don't work out and let's be realistic there have been many that haven't, they will have to take huge loses of money leaving them either, putting up with a player not at the level Chelsea need or loss of money and unable to spend to rebuild the team. It's a massive risk imo and not one they needed to take. There are reasons that other clubs haven't given out massive contracts and all the other big clubs aren't run by idiots. It's going to be interesting times one way or the other

These are relatively lower wage contracts with performance bonuses. The risk lies in some of these players not performing and wanting to run down their long contracts. The risk of loss from transfer value is not that big. Even If Enzo flops somewhat and is moved on somewhere else for 50-60m in 2 years time, it is only a 20m loss considering amortization. It is not a Lukaku where he is worth zilch

Are you keeping up with the news that come summer they are actively looking to ship those players out alongside the likes of Auba, Ziyech, Pulisic, Gallagher, CHO, Koulibaly, RLC, Sarr and more. That's 11 players already who are out of favour or are not good enough to play for the club. We can always sell them in the summer, right now the priority should've been getting our priority targets in before rivals jump in, which is exactly what we did. And just because we have those players on our books, who are of no use to us btw, doesn't mean we don't address issues that have been persisting for years especially when there's no guarantee that we'll able to pull those players since our UCL hopes are dead already. Like there's no way we would've got the likes of Enzo and Felix in the summer when there would've been loads of other clubs who would've been able to offer that. We got them because we have it now. Don't you think it's smart strategy to anticipate competition before it even exists?
