It seems Samsung is finally catching up the zoom of Huawei p30 pro from 3 years ago. Damn, i can't even imagine what dominating cameras huawei was gonna have without this fight and sanctions from America.... I would love to compare with s22. Iphone 13 pro, while Iphone takes easier and specially the better pictures in auto mode (and even more, with the wide-angle camera), in terms of zoom and night mode, huawei is king.

11:48 While the 4:3 aspect ratio may be unappealing to some, this allows the usage of the whole sensor as the sensors' aspect ratio is also near 4:3. If you record video in any other aspect ratio, you are essentially cropping into the sensor. Shooting with the whole sensor allows you to have some flexibility in post. For example, you can both render a regular 16:9 (landscape) video for youtube, and a 9:16 (portrait) for tiktok, reels, or shorts without too much crop (record 16:9 then crop to 9:16). Pretty much allows the reuse of recorded content for different platforms. As for the issue of black bars on playback, players nowadays do allow cropping in. You just have to remember not to frame the video in 4:3 as shown in viewfinder, but in 16:9 or 9:16 to have that "flexibility" in post or during playback. Basically, just step back a bit. I wish Samsung includes 4:3 aspect ratio in Pro Video mode, as well as the ability to shoot in higher resolution, 4k if possible even. Should give plenty of allowance in post. The maximum 1920x1440 resolution seems limiting.

almost all of these settings can be adjusted in the Pro photo or Pro video modes. My sister and I were travelling through Kansas a couple weeks ago. We stopped in the middle of nowhere for a break. We noticed a pattern in the night sky, it was the center of the Milky Way. It took me a minute to figure it out, but I was able to actually capture several images of the our galaxy with my Galaxy S20 FE. I used the 15second timed exposure in Pro Photo mode. It BLOWS my mind that a phone could even capture it. It was so dark out there, that without the lights from my dash in the car I couldn't see my sister on the other side of the car.

14:47 - One great feature not included in this video is to auto-focus on the desired object (lets say it's a house in a mountain in the distance) then press the tiny padlock icon to lock the auto-focusing, then move the phone close to a nearby leaf on the tree next to you and make a truly artistic photo with the distant house still in perfect focus while the close up leaf is nicely blurred. Or, you can lock the focus on the close object and then make everything in the distance blurred. This is especially useful when you want the focus to remain locket and still be able to point your camera in another direction or shift it sideways. This way, the blurred leaf from my example above will always stay blurry even if you point the camera directly into it with the focus being locked to the distance.

Great video! Any clue why Samsung ditched the long exposure simulation modes, like "light trails" and "waterfall" mode? I really miss those, and being able to shoot flowy water in bright sunlight. :/

I wondered the same but figured it was a good excuse to buy an after-market neutral density filter. I use one on my DSLR for waterfalls.

When you are recording videos with HEVC format to save storage space, the video encoding actually degrades the quality a bit. If you truly want the best possible video for editing purposes later, you should disable HEVC, but keep in mind that the file size will basically double.

I love the time and energy you put into your videos. When it comes to the focus enhancer mode, it just doesn't show on my 22ultra. Would anyone have an idea why that is?? Thank you very much !

Great tips here....one issue I have is that when recording video the camera seems to be re-focussing itself causing what can only be described as a slow zoom in and then jump back effect on the video. The whole thing lasts about 1 second. Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? I have turned off most enhancement modes to try and stop it.

Great video! I just got this phone two days ago and I have no clue how to take advantage of all it's features. But now I have a lot of things I can mess around with. I took a few regular pictures yesterday without messing with Abby settings and they came out great, this phone is sick! I have to give it to Samsung on this one. I'm a Sony guy, especially with TVs, but I have to admit Samsung killed it with this phone. Great video, very informative for someone like me who's not a tech guy and can now use these features you showed. Thanks

@Variabledegree series I did so much more with the jailbreak than customisation (totallly not recommended in my opinion, breaked the UI often) or download IPAs... you could run ANY CODE on it, thats why it was so problematic for apple (and partially for the users), it made iOS even more dangerous to cyber attacks than android. With jailbreak you just needed to know who and which software you could trust. Thank god jailbreak is barely needed anymore, but i still miss some stuff like running windows XP for fun on it or proper emulators and gamepad support as nintendo or gameboy in a phone. With some limitations you could even run OS X command line applications (as much or no sense it made)

@Variabledegree series Im not using the iPhone because of the camera at all, its because i prefer iOS over android/google and becaus it was cheaper than higher end android garbage. Flip phones dont get into my hands before all problems with flexible screens are solved, until that day i want a glass protected display. But yeah, if there is anytime soon an affordable and ROBUST flip phone (also robust screen!) and apple doesnt deliver something i would probably go for android or more like have to go to. But the 12 Mini is super compact and more than enough for my needs.

@GOAT OF DUTY I mean you can't take it every where, do you get me. Like if you travel the world, even some tourist places in your own country. You will realise how useful a smartphone camera becomes.. also just struck my mind, if you don't need telephoto, you should rather switch to Samsung flip. If you want just a pocketable phone and not a small display phone..It's easy to hold actually due to the aspect ratio.

@GOAT OF DUTY well a jailbreak(I did) basically only allows you to do customisation and download IPAs. Basically what android already does. But Samsung Knox is still secured. You have to use it to know. I would never recommend jailbreak as you lose the basic things apple does good and also the jailbreak platform is very small. If you say mini is damn good I can hardly imagine if you ever used a S series or a pixel or gcam. I last checked the iPhone 13 for the non pro varients and if you download gcam for even a midranger, it takes far better pics. Just telling the truth because Pixel shot much better pics with IMX 363. And even midrangers use IMX 766 now a days. You can easily get in the 5 series for sure. Ya the 4k 60fps is not available on midrangers which does not bother many.. even if they get 4k30. Gcam is by far the closest smartphone computation gets to mirrorless or dslr. Ofcourse then there is Sony that doesn't do much computation and so is kind of like dslr or mirrorless. For the mini phones well, I will go for Asus Zenfone 9 handsdown. Yes it is bigger with 5.9inch screen size but gets 4300 mah battery with Sd8+gen1 and amoled 120hz display and lesser bezels (talking about the edges not only the notch). Not to mention Asus is one of the best devices for gcam lovers. And both the primary and UW cameras of Zenfone gets gimbal stabilisation and takes amazing videos.. If you don't live in the US and are too much into iMessage or facetime due to the society. (It's a weird thing about that, I mean a democratic country deny right to choices in a way), the Zenfone 9 is a far better choice. It is also very pockatable. It easily fits even on my sister's pocket..(she has it, she loves handy phones)..

@Variabledegree series And there are still some compact cameras (so not something like my full frame DSLM), they have small sensors and have for reach just small lenses and FIT INTO THE POCKET. But still. Would be still more trustworthy than a phone. As good Samsungs camera setup is, especially with the telezoom thingy, Samsung still cant change physics, and there is only limited space and so "garbage" camera quality. Just because Samsung advertise low light capabilities, you dont have to repeat them, if its good enough for you, ok have fun with it, but dont act as if these images are more usable than for any social network to post. Im anyways wondering... vlogger etc are searching for like 4000$ setups for the most cinematic talking head video... WTF? Ofc for a damn talking head video even the iPhone X is enough.

I just got this phone over the weekend because my Note 10+ Couldn't be repaired and I was holding out on the upgrade because I didn't think it was much of a difference but boy was I wrong I can't begin to believe how much improved this device is! A true MONSTER of a machine! I love it all the way around hands down! MY GALAXY FAMILY PLEASE STAND UP....! 💯🙌🏿💪🏿FOREVER 🙏🏿 BLESSED ! Also this was the best video ever for this phone...! The video is informative. However, many S22 Ultra users face choppy frames/shutter lag for the first few seconds of the video recording. Please reply if you have any solution for that.

Fantastic video! No seriously, this was unbelievable! Best tips video i've ever seen, and totally convinced me to stop sitting on the fence and order the S22 Ultra. I was thinking about the Pixel 6 pro, because I love the magic eraser feature, so was stunned to learn the S22 can also do that. Why the hell aren't Samsung making a bigger deal of that. Insanely good video. If there was a 5 star rating for youtube videos, this would get 6 stars!

Samsung always assumes everyone is aware of their features which mostly isnt the case.. for instance.. you are also going to notice you can simultaneously listen to single stream of music with two pair of BT headphones.

FYI super slow mo on the s22 ultra isn't native 960, it's interpolated, so keep that in mind when filming. I believe it's also interpolated on the s21 ultra as well but on all other models that have super slow mo it is native.

That makes sense. Think about it...1mp x 960 per second is 960mp a second. No phone can do more then like 200mp a second in processing apps like geekbench

I'm looking for a way to turn off object tracking in superzoom mode. When I have the phone on a tripod aimed at the moon for example, it starts making all these weird adjustments. That makes it so much more difficult to get a steady shot. And yet when I go to pro mode I can't use the 100x zoom.

I'll look into adding something like that to break up the features more and give viewers time to soak in the info :) Quick general KZitem tip to help on my exosting videos, if you double tap on the left side of a video, it'll go back 10 seconds. If you keep tapping, it'll continue to go back 10 seconds at a time. And on desktop, using the arrow keys will move you forward or backward through the video by 10 seconds for each press. Hopefully that makes it a bit easier to rewatch just what you need :)

I can confirm that every camera and photo editing feature you see in this video also appears on the S21 Ultra. Even the S pen feature works, granted you buy one separately.

These are the things about Samsung that almost nobody knows and barely uses them. And these are the features that really helps a lot than can be expected. But many don't know at all or else they would've known how much capable newer Samsung flagship really are. Really good to see someone bringing those features into videos.

Great video, thank you. Recently got this phone. And also recently did the software update. Does anyone's phone switch from "super fast charging" to "charging" after a few seconds when putting the charger cord in? Mine does but it doesnt change the charging time.

You did not mention inless I missed it that with a front camera. You can use flash mode to take a photo. Do this in the dark as well as 40mp and remaster the photo, and it's a better photo than most main cameras on other phones

Damn I want a Samsung rather than a pixel for phone photogrpahy now. Its really impressive, how much options one has with Samsung - and you havent even touched on Expert Raw :0 My question would be, are these features also found on s22 and s22+ or only on the ultra? I mean sure the 108mp wont be on the s22 and s22+ but what about the other software features? Thanks for this really well put together video!

Apart from the zoom thing and 40MP selfie camera are these features available in the S22 Plus ? Because I really liked the camera of this phone and the only thing I am not buying this is it's size and curved display . Please do answer if anyone knows about this . :D Thanks

I've used Photoshop basically since it first came out. I still use it, but this is the first phone that has caught up to PS in some ways. Pretty amazing.

Ya I have the S22 ultra and it has so many extra things that even photoshop can't do like the time change mode.. I still prefer Adobe for colour correction and Snapseed for other tools. But the modes in Samsung has increased the possibilities of what I can do

5:55 now get a base S20 and compare the Super Slow-mo qualities. From the S21 and later, it only records half the time and is extremely blurry if you try using home lightbulbs instead of direct sunlight. But it is still great in very bright places. 12:30 That would've been a good time to also explain that using 16:9 or Full just cuts down the borders of the image And I'm surprised you didn't talk about the "Pro" nor "Pro Video" modes. Anyways, it was a great and very informative video, specially for people who recently got a phone

Great informative vid :) Since you know lot about Ss22U, can you tell why my pictures look crap on my PC? They look perfect on the phone. I use the same PC to edit my films and pics from my Canon 5D 3 so there is not a problem with my Pc. I have reset all settings as suggested by Samsung, did not help.

It's simply because smartphone photography is different and depends a lot on computational photography. It happens with all the smartphones maybe except the Sony xperia series. You can't compare it with a dslr or mirrorless. Those who say you can, are fooling you atleast for the next 5 years. Why Sony Xperia has not much issue? Because it uses the hardwares close to mirrorless cameras and relies less on computational photography and that is why photographers prefer that phone. But it has a catch. It has less features, less hdr and average night mode due to that. You have to go to photo pro app and click like a mirrorless to get the photo you need. If you want those controls and all, Xperia is by far the best. You can't take certain types of photos on any other smartphone. Like to control lighting in certain way, hard to explain for me check out that phone on YT. But for genral photos, Samsung handsdown..

These even work on my Galaxy s20+, Thank you 👍 I'm not a fan of the ultra as its way too big and much heavier, and I can't even upgrade because I'd feel I'm downgrading, I love my 12gb ram and sdcard slot, my nice screen resolution and I love my smaller camera. Cameras on the later phones are going crazy big, they look ugly imo and they put more cameras on them, I tested my camera and it don't use all of the lenses at the same time, so what's the point. I appreciate your time, great video.

Thank you! I knew the cameras were powerful, and had picked up a few pointers, but this was so comprehensive. You speak even faster than folks from RI (we are known for it.) But, you were generous enough to place the bookmarks so that I could go back easily to listen again to something that went past me. One thing you didn't include is hyperlapse. It has limited applications, but can make some really cool videos. I've always thought it would be great as background video while someone is talking about a road trip. Finally, how did you manage that last shot???? Was that done in camera, or did you process it through something like Adobe Premiere. I actually have Premiere, so could play with it myself. So, thanks for taking the time to educate the rest of us.

Love it. I had my s20fe for a year and never looked. I got my s22 yesterday and saw this video. Just when I thought yes something good my s22 does I found out the s20 does it all too. But the s22 definitely looks better in lower light and probably looks better in other areas. But I'm gutted there's no macro camera I've not had a macro camera phone yet. I think it would be crazy useful. When buying weed.
