How did I sleep on this song for so long? I've always loved BNL but never really appreciated this one until now. Ed's voice makes this so emotional, and there's something about the silences between verses where he adds nothing so it's like you're on edge between each verse. This song is incredible and I'm so glad I randomly came across it!

It’s because it’s VERY personal from Ed to Steve. You’ll notice the band barely looks at Ed. It’s personal to Steve. Only Tyler glances at Ed.

In my top 5 favorite songs of theirs. Clearly in some way about Steve and the breakup. I think for us long time fans I can say safely in 2019 here it still hurts. And even though they're still out here making great music I'd be willing to bet there's still hurt in the band. Not a day goes by where I don't hope they find their way back together.

I love watching them sing. The songs, the phrases, the individual words mean something to them. They aren't just trying for a hit song but to convey a message, to touch someone with their words, to allow their music to be the soundtrack of the lives of the fans and listeners.

While I agree with you that this song is directed at Steven Page, I really don't think there was any malicious intent. For me I see it as more as Ed expressing his pain and disappointment at not being included in the efforts to solve the problems Steve was going through at the time. He is saying at one point we agreed to treat each other like brothers, but when times got very tough, you decided to "run away" instead of seeing if and/or how I could of helped you. At least for me that is how the song comes through.

Here’s something behind the scenes. You’ll notice the band quite purposely does not look at the camera when Ed starts singing “I’ll give you something you can cry about….” They allowed it to be personal from Ed to Steve. There are some other things about this song that if you really listen, you can hear how specific it is.

The visual effects were meant to be for something else a movie or a time themed movie but not for a BNL vid, should have been more about relationships between two o more people more dramatic tone accoding to the lyrics. Great song though!

I have just listened to this song many times before. I just wish that this song could have been on the recent KZitem videos of the "Top 10 breakup songs" this song "You Run Away" from the Barenaked Ladies" would've been a better choice than "Someone like you" from Adele herself, but just like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, I'm not a fan of Adele or her music, too whiny and sad, honestly. Sorree or sorry. Aside from that I have yet to hear this song while working at the Lowe's here in Monroe :-).

By far the worst song on All In Good Time, not even taking the lyrical content into account. BNL "outsiders" have always accused this band of being lame as hell, but that was never actually true until they dropped this turd. This is soft rock for people who like Nickelback and Kings of Leon and shit. Rest of the album was pretty solid, but damn.
