@juansnow5897 it was a lottery like any other, but it felt good to unlock not just one but even 2 cores sometimes. The lottery existed because some good chips were locked into less to cover the market demand for cheaper cpus and gpus, respectively. And overclocking was super profitable. Btw, Skylake is not *that* old to say you lived through it like some grandpa. With how much kaby lake sucked and coffee lake was expensive, too hot for the liking, while low to mid-range segment sucked, many used and built pcs on skylake going as far as 2018, f.e., from what I remember. 6700/6700k looked good for gaming.

It's the manufacturing process. When they create those chips a lot of them aren't perfect to spec. So they disable the bad part of the chip and repurpose it as a lower end one. This has been an industry standard for decades now. On some AMD CPUs they'll even let you reenable the defective cores on your own risk. Basically, when you buy a lower end chip, there's likelihood it's a defective higher end chip that had the defective cores disabled for stability.

@mattevans1643 dude, I'm not a beginner. I pointed it out because 60 and 70 cards don't usually use the same die, last time it happened with gtx 760 and 770, and before that only in gtx 200 series 260 to 280 used the same die while gts 250 was a fourth reincarnation of 8800 ultra. Amd might as well have alien jaws with all the rebranding that happened in HD series, then HD into r7/r9 200, then into 300, then rx 400 rebranded to 500. Thankfully, they don't do lazy releases like that anymore.

@elderman64 in amd case, they just couldn't produce anything more powerful at the time. For reference, the beloved "people's champ" rx 480 couldn't compete even with r9 390, let alone 390x. And r9 390 was a second rebranding of HD 7970, released in 2011! Before that, and also when ATI were not owned by amd, it was a pattern - rebrand previous lines gpu for low and mid segments, only make the top gpu really "new". But they hit their ceiling with HD 7000 and said "fuck it, let's see nvidia come up with something better". Top radeons like said 7970 looked real good in comparison to Kepler gtx 600-700 series. And nvidia did, maxwell came around, put out same or better performance, and didn't need 300w tdp to work. 300-350w doesn't seem half as crazy today as it did back then, gtx 970 sat comfortably at 60c, while r9 390 could easily go over 80c under load. But if someone has one that is alive, it holds better than 970 in newer games all because of 8gb vram, even back then 3.5gb in 970 was a problem for me, had to turn down shadows, textures, watch how much anti-aliasing consumes. With 980ti release, amd tried a gamble with Fury X. It was bold, but it failed, pricy, and a lot of issues you didn't have to think about on 980ti. Later on, Fury experience gave life to Vega 56/64 and Radeon 7, which are good if it wasn't for mining, but they released a lot later than 1000 pascal, and those were so good that everyone who wanted a new gpu already got one before vega release. After Vega and 7, amd once again made a generation where they didn't compete with nvidia top gpus. As you can see, Amd does it often, when they can't achieve a groundbreak in engineering. Now, nvidia. Nvidia doesn't do rebranding as much, in the last 12 years, they haven't done any at all. Last rebranding was gtx 500 series, you could compare it to how amd rereleased rx 400 and named them rx 500. Nvidia could afford it at the time because performance wise, gtx 400 won the race but had throttling issues, although 500 didn't exactly solve the bigger problem of gpu death, 600 did, but then again, 780 also were dying like flies, I had 2 actually. The gap between gtx 770 and 780/ti was so big that it made more sense to save cost production, make gtx 770 on smaller die, and make gtx 760 on that same die, instead of trying to hack down thousands of micro elements from 780s, it's time effective question. In gtx 200 days it would be easier to do. Let's take just one parameter, cuda cores, to compare manufacturing complexity. Gtx 280 chip had 240 cores, 780 had almost ten times(!) that at 2304. In rtx 2000 case, I think Nvidia were pressed for time and pressed with rx 5600/xt and 5700/xt competition at mid segment at the same time. Many Turing gpus were failing during production simply because you now had a lot more elements placed, the transistor budget went way up in comparison to previous generations and radeons. That's why for a good while amd gpus were getting cooler than nvidia ones, they didn't have as much going on, so they had lower tdp, and some manufacturers were lowing that tdp down even more. This made 2060 a last minute cut down from 2070, instead of its own thing like it usually is. This made 2060 expensive and too hot to be sold with cheap, simple cooling, although many distributors sure tried, and temps were rising up to and over 80c, vram was getting hot, powering mosfets in some versions did too. Thus, when nvidia does it, it's for manufacturing reasons, but like with 2060, sometimes they will rush production just to cover the market demand if needed. When amd does it, it's because they don't have anything better to roll out instead.

It could be also that this card is from slightly defective yield. For instance Samsung 3nm die success yield was around 50%. This could be one of those unsuccessful yields where nvidia still could utilize 70% of shaders and so using it in lower tier. Unlocking those cards would be pointless if thats the case

Scroll to the bottom of the list page and double check all the information is correct, pcpartpicker is right 99% of the time though but it's worth checking just to make sure because having to return something is fsr more effort. Something you might have to look out for is ram clearance, if you have an air cooler check a review of it to see whether your ram will fit under it. PPP is generally good with telling you stuff like whether your GPU or cooler will be too big and stick out the side of your case, but make sure it can also fit horizontally too! Some cases don't have the space for long GPUs. Some stuff that pcpartpicker won't tell you about (but your system will work either way, but this is still useful to know in case you're new to this): Check if your system has a bottleneck (One of your components is too weak) using the calculator, make sure you select the correct resolution and "graphics intensive tasks" since most games use GPU more. Make sure the bottleneck isn't above 5%. You need to make sure your graphics card isn't too powerful for your processor and the other way round. If your GPU is too weak you can swap your CPU for something worse to save $ or get a better GPU, same goes for if the CPU is too weak. Make sure with pcpartpicker you have a compatible motherboard if you change the CPU. Any GPU works as long as it's big enough for your case and your power supply can handle it (pcpartpicker will tell you about this too) The Ryzen 5000 series is the best on a budget if buying new, Ryzen 7000 is better for future upgradability. Ryzen 5000 is the last series of CPUs the am4 socket will have meaning you won't be able to upgrade to newer CPUs in the future but you can upgrade to better 5000 series CPUs if you wanted but they will be worse than the newer stuff in a few years but not massively worse until maybe PS6 comes out and games start using the better PS6 hardware, at which point your CPU won't be the only thing holding you back so you will need to spend more money whenever the new consoles come out to get not just a better gpu but also cpu, motherboard and RAM, but with am5 you would only need GPU and maybe CPU upgrade. You would be saving now but pay more later but ONLY IF you will want to play the newest games at comparable quality to the next consoles in the future. All games released today and for the next few years will play just fine on Ryzen 5000. Just know that doing stuff like turning down resolution and settings won't help much in case of a slow CPU in most games. New hardware is improving more slowly so there's a good chance that an 8 core Ryzen 5000 will last longer than my old intel too. The newer 7000 series uses a completely different am5 socket. It will not work with an am4 motherboard and vice versa. I don't know much about intel but they sometimes have good deals, but they generally only let you upgrade your CPU for only 2 generations which last 2~ years whilst AMD supported 5 generations with am4 from 2017 to 2022 but is still selling and releasing new CPUs even now (The newer Ryzen 5000s don't use the newer Ryzen 7000 technology though). CPUs will last you a while especially if you don't plan on regularly spending $ upgrading your GPU to eventually something your CPU can't handle, which would be quite difficult. I didn't upgrade my 4th generation i5 for over 8 years, it worked fine the entire time, until I couldn't play Elden ring at 60fps but only at 40-50fps because it was too weak and was holding my GPU back, my build had parts mostly from 2014-2016. Also make sure if you have a card capable of 1440p or 4k gaming, to not just use a 1080p monitor! Don't skimp on a power supply! Try getting something at least B tier on the PSU tier list if possible, but anything from a well known brand works too, most of the brands on the PSU tier list are good even if you can find that specific model of power supply. Getting a bad power supply not only makes your electricity bills more expensive but it can and has also fried people's entire systems so make sure it's not a shoddy one (to be honest I think that's gotten more rare now, but it's better to be safe) Depending on your budget, you should take a look at the SSD tier list, but any reputable brand works on a budget, even if it's a cheaper SATA SSD. Nvme SSD should be used if you have the budget for it though.

They been using cheap components in Nvidia gpu's for years. Their are plenty of videos of this happening. Of how they makes their chips and where they buy them. They definitely out to make the most profit. It is bad for us consumers. However I don't see this Happening on the AMD Side and the Intel Side it seems only Nvidia are doing this.

Best combo GPU combo for 5600G?
@Dakumun640
15 күн бұрын
honestly, a 3060, 3060 ti, or anything above that will work just fine. my 16 gb 4060 ti works great with my 5600G (I bought my pc without the gpu) and honestly, i still usually have upwards of 60 to 70 percent cpu headroom, if not more, so you could prolly run a higher tier gpu because the 5600's are just great cpus. Some games are more cpu intensive, however, so sometimes having a high end gpu may not make all games run better. So really, go with any gpu that's in budget research what gpu's are good and which ones are not as great, and you'll most likely be fine. Remember to plug the hdmi/dp cable into the gpu and plug the pcie cables into the gpu, and you'll be fine.

for a gaming pc rx 7700xt or rtx 4060ti (i do not care much about ray tracing or dlss)
@Dakumun640

the 7700 xt performs better at a lower price, but the 4060ti has access to dlss3, which is a great technology honestly. However, it's mostly preference. Do you want a cheaper card that performs marginally better, or a more expensive card with better features? That's what it boils down to.

I'm assuming you mean American $. If not then you'll have to consult a different comment section cuz most of us are North Americans or Europeans. You can get a koorui 1440p 144hz monitor on Amazon for less than 170$. Then the rx7800xt or 7900gre for less than 600$ (you can use the 4070, but not recommended for raw FPS) Ryzen 5 7600x which is 220$ Next a PSU which you can pick any 750w on the PSU tier list that's rated B tier or higher. That'll average about 100$ Cases aren't important just find a nice one you like that's got good airflow that'll average about 100$. 32gb ddr5 shouldn't cost more than 100$ A good Samsung SSD 1tb is about 80$ now. You can go for other brands for less. If you want 2tb that's usually 150$ Total cost seems to be about 1500$

didn't samsung and a few other ssd manufacturers get into a whole bunch of crap over something just like this just a few years ago?
@MarcsSpark

the problem with the ssd was that the performance was less, in this case the performance is the same so it doesn't matter. All the big three have been doing it for years for their cpu and gpu.

@@MarcsSpark I get what you're saying they were using different components but it's pretty difficult these days to say even 2 pieces of otherwise identical silicon perform the same, GN talked about it recently when trying to make a test bench and discovering out of 8 cpu's only 3 performed similarly by metric, while admittedly that's talking about cpu's how do we know the silicon being talked about here isn't just an inferior batch that unless you benchmarked them side to side you wouldn't know one was worse?
@MarcsSpark

@nauroticdax there will always be a margin on cpu and gpu performance, that's just silicon lottery.
