John Mcgeoch of Siouxsie and the banshees used to run a 50 watt marshall combo distorted in tandem with a jc120 clean with the stereo chorus and he would use all of the effects (a dynacomp as a boost, an mxr flanger and a yamaha e1005 delay) into both. The dynacomp would make the roland jump in volume a bit and it sounded huge. A very cool sound

@@mattgilbert7347 Adrian's lesson is the best one (AnyoneCanPlayGuitar). When my old guitar (I thought) died a few years ago (I ended up getting it fixed anyway) I ordered a Yamaha SG1000 from Japan and decided Spellbound would be the first thing I ever played on it - so I learned it from Adrian's video - perfectly (been playing many years with some time off). So when it arrived, that's what I did. And a year or so later - I got a JC120. Some McGeoch stuff can be really hard to play for people who don't have long fingers like he did. Adrian's comment (on I think his Halloween lesson) "McGeoch you're having a laugh" made me chuckle. On an aside note - I have a theory that "Spellbound" is actually a jazz funk track if you play the riff notes as chords in a funky way to the main backing track - yuo will see what I mean.

Something I have done before when recording is use an ABC box to split my signal to two different amps, different effects on each (reverb on one, and a very short slapback delay on the other, for example) and set them to where I can clean up with the volume on my guitar. The result, a pseudo double tracked guitar, but 2 different tones. Depending on the sounds I want, I can also use different drive pedal combinations to mix it up. It doesn't replace real double tracking entirely as the differences of the individual performances make the sound bigger too, but I feel it cuts down on the number of double tracked tracks I need to do individually.

I am in the process of acquiring an attenuator so I can run my 5E3 broken up with the '64 Princeton having more headroom. I have way more amps than my skill level would dictate. Played a gig in Nashville a few weeks ago and being that it was a 10 PM Saturday night slot on Broadway which can be tricky loading in and out, I decided to go light and just brought a 50 watt Kitana. I used my normal pedal board (which is likely 10 times the cost of the amp) and was thrilled with the result. That Artist Amp does a ton and works awesome as a pedal platform.

Agreed... 2 Amps is butter! I use two amps... connected by a simple Ernie Ball "stereo volume" pedal for the last 22 years. On either of the A or B amps I'll insert any effects etc. in each direct line or in the effects loop of the amp. *my final result is I'm able "blend" as much of the two amps as desired. I can even move completely to the A or the B amp. *This 2 amp set up lets me place clean effects and dirty effects on opposite sides. Together the combine tones. Many gig board op's have complemented the guitar clearity and dynamic power. IT WORKS. Cheers!

And thanks to my GigRig G3 (life changing and thanks to Joe for help!), I also recently discovered the beauty of leaving my Fender Tweed Deluxe alone and letting it do its thing as the Dry amp in my Wet/Dry/Wet rig. Once pushed enough, the Deluxe (with Alnico Blue) is stunning, has a beautiful, lush, velvety bottom end and mid-range, has a glassy, sophisticated top end, and simply sounds better without any drive pedals going into it (and it is already loud starting at amp Volume 2). Then add brighter Wet amps with some pre-delay to the reverb, and it creates this crazy 3D dimension to the sound with both warmth and brightness. Unending joy and discovery, thanks guys!

When playing around with wet dry I found that I like 100% wet on 1 amp 0% wet on the other (delay and reverb not OD, OD goes to both amps). I like the clarity of the delay not "crashing into" the dry sound from the same speaker. I can use a higher mix of delay without it getting muddy. This is the same concept Larry Carlon used with post amp effects and Steve Morse used to use with a volume pedal and an extra amp for his 100% delay.

Getting further into the video - I have my modded EHX Satisfaction, Morley vol/wah and Supro Overdrive (with expression pedal) before the split, then the Plethora and Flint running stereo, then one amp gets Catalinbread SFT, the other gets Keeley 1962x. I’ve used an Orange OR15 into a 4x12 cab and a Mesa F30 for years. I Iove the spring reverb in the Mesa and have gone through so many reverb pedals trying to get that sound for my Orange rig. I happen to be at my local guitar shop when I guy sold his EHX switchblade. I bought it and finally set up my rig in stereo and it sounds incredible. I have a Boss RE-20 Space Echo coming on Monday and I can’t wait to hear it through this new rig. Stereo rules. Thanks for giving me some ideas!

There are so, so many positive comments that I can’t tell if this has already been mentioned, but if not to put some context around achieving roughly a 10dB reduction on your meter: “3 dB is a doubling of power 6 dB is a doubling of voltage or sound pressure level (SPL) 10 dB is considered to be, to humans with a non linear sense of amplitude, a doubling of apparent loudness.” So you effectively knocked back the apparent sound level by half (but technically the SPL by much more) and it still sounded epic! Well done guys. Fantastic video 👍

I know it has been mentioned, but it is hilarious that Micks' glasses will barely stay up for 1.5 seconds, but he still keeps trying. Perseverance against all odds.

Oh happy day ,I love Two amp time ! I'm forever grateful to the two of you for all your educational videos on the subject .I still remember the first time I saw one, and it was one of those awakening moments ,where every thing just seems more in focus .I now have four different sets of wet /dry combo rigs .It's been such a fun experience finding "my tone" For me it's always two different amps i.e. Fender/Marshall ,and lots of pedals for gain staging ,and mod/delay options. It's what I'd call more of a "moist/damp" tone ha! P.S. put some tps stickers on the mini pedal board I built for my gui(pedal)tar student .Who after 6 months of lessons joined the school jazz band! and after 6 weeks just had their first concert (six songs) !!

This episode makes me think Dan just needs to get a Cornish ST -2 . Seriously you guys being called That pedal show and having the greatest pedal and pedalboard maker maker in your country , get him on ! Pete understandably may not want to be under the spotlight .

Experimenting with this now and I'm so pleased with the results. I am using a Helix (yeah, yeah, whatever...) and running a Matchless and a Lone Star with the Lone Star as the dirty amp and it just sounds perfect. Great tips in this episode!

Playing into two amps changed my life. I've got a Marshal Origin 20c dry and a Beson mod FHRD wet and it's such an inspirational sound.

I love Impossibly Forever Headroom. Between listening to Matt Schofield and Robben I love having almost limitless dynamics. Like an acoustic instrument that won't choke. Oscar Peterson said of the 10' Black Forest Steinway that you could not hit it too hard. It's hard to play and you have to stay backed off on the attack most of the time. But having the headroom to make notes jump reminds me of Oscar, Bird and all my favorite jazz players.

And that is why many jazz players (and most bass players) play solid state amps.

Thanks for an excellent show of experimentation! I recently got an ABYBaby to dual a 20w Carl's Blonde Bassman and a 65 RI Princeton, so not unlike your last two amps. I had been thinking down an opposite track: no dirt pedals into the wet amp (Princeton) but now I'll be trying several arrangements; one I'm thinking if for lower volumes us to make the Princeton at about 4.5 as the headroom/wet amp with gain from pedals, since the volume and master relationship on the Blonde allows for adjustable gain. The big takeaway is sending different pedals into each amp. A little more fiddly without a switcher, but I'm seeing them as separate 'mini' pedalboard chains routed off the same board. Bravo!

I tried this approach today with my 1969 drip edge Fender Champ as the wet amp and 1959 Gibson Skylark as the dry amp, using a Fulltone ABY with Xotic Super Clean>TurboTuner>Rockett Blue Note>Whirlwind Orange Box>MXR Carbon Copy into the Champ and straight into the Skylark. It works as illustrated here, and the output at 1 meter from these two 5 watters is 100dB. I would likely reconfigure to put the Super Clean boost (set up as a upper mid boost) and tuner before both amps, but this is an inspiring small amp rig. Moving up a big notch, I would use my '63 BF Fender Tremolux or Bad Cat Cub IIR as the wet amp and a tweed deluxe as the dry amp. Very cool, so thanks for the inspiration.
