There's NOTHING hard on "your body" about being a nail tech, except maybe the lungs, inhaling all those toxic chemicals for 8 hours a day. I'd like to know exactly what you think is "hard on the body". It's "harder on the body" to be a hair stylist than a nail tech, considering they're on their feet all day and having to hold their arms up to cut the hair and the hands in repetitive cutting motions with the scissors, which can cause carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, shoulder issues, neck issues etc. I've done my own nails and it took 3 hours and my body was just fine after and there's not many things I can do for 3 hours straight with absolutely no tiredness of SOMETHING in my body happening... so I'm just not seeing what you're talking about. But I'm REALLY surprised that it's 2023 and we've not seen one of those quiet TV ads that start with "have you or a loved one experienced respiratory illnesses while working in the nail care business? You could be entitled to compensation." I'm sure it'll be a matter of time... another 10-20 years or so...

A bunch of people in the comments are very mistaken. Greenies are NOT FUNGAL. Greenies are bacteria that grow in a pocket of lifting under extensions or overlays. You cannot just use anti fungal cream. The best thing to do is let it be exposed to the air because its the wet, dark environment under the overlay that lets it grow to begin with. This is why good techs are very obsessed with cleanliness while we do your nails. Bacteria is impossible to completely remove from the skin and nails but if someone isnt being sanitary, it makes greenies more likely. Edit: in case anyone sees butt hurt nail techs, who weren't trained properly, making claims in this thread about greenies being fungis or even more strange, just from water and not the microprganisms in the water, please don't take my word for it. Look it up on reputable sources and learn for yourselves. You don't need to believe me, but don't believe people who do not want to learn and grow.

@starrynyte158
11 ай бұрын
@@marzipanmerci1068 absolutely. It's all about hygeine. Greenies are unlikely if you aren't doing an overlay or you have them serviced properly every 2-3 weeks. Best thing to do is to check out a salon and their disinfection routines. Do they scrub the pedicure bowl after every treatment? If they have a basin with watet jets, ask them how they disinfect them, if they don't use hospital grade disinfectants after every client, walk away. Manicures are less likely to cause infection, especially if you purchase your own tools (many salons have that option). Dont be afraid to ask questions. They should know those simple answers if they are following proper hygeine and disinfection practices

I’m a Canadian nurse and I have a quick fun fact for you about this video! That green-coloured discharge, along with a kind of sickly sweet smell (once you’ve smelled it, you never forget it!) is associated with a particular type of bacteria called pseudomonas (“sue-doe-moe-nus”). When we treat wounds that have pseudomonas, the bacteria responds to something rather unexpected. We use a sterile, diluted, medical-grade solution of acetic acid, which is **vinegar**!!! Normal cooking vinegar is usually around 2-3% acetic acid, cleaning vinegar between 5-10%, and the stuff we use for wounds is 0.5%. We apply the solution to a piece of gauze, let it sit on the affected area for 5-10 minutes (or as long as the patient can tolerate if less than that), rinse the area with normal saline, then apply an appropriate bandage for the wound. It often clears up in even just 1 application of this treatment, but sometimes takes 2 or 3 treatments that are done on the dressing change days (anywhere from daily to weekly). Pretty neat, huh?! 😅
@dyingofdioxide

@@dyingofdioxide interesting! Usually specimens for dissection are preserved in glutaraldehyde (or formaldehyde in the past - still sometimes now, but is becoming less widely used) and that might be the scent you’re thinking of 🤷♀️ Those also have a distinct and hard-forgotten smell 😂 There’s a bunch of things that can be described as smelling “sickly sweet” so I’m not surprised that that’d sound familiar! Luckily, most folks won’t have to experience the smell of pseudomonas unless they work in a medical field, a lab, or something along those lines, or if someone happens to have a wound that becomes infected with pseudo. There are many types of bacteria that can infect a wound and some have an equally distinct odour, while others just kind of smell “bad” 😅

This is pseudomonas aeruginosa and files off, the only reason someone gets this is from water getting trapped under the enhancement and you can put treatment on the nail but it grows out and usually isn’t made worse by any enhancement. I’ve been a nail tech for 20 + years and while I get the concern especially by the sight of this but honestly it’s not like nail fungus or even onycholysis where the nail lifts from the nail plate and even then as technicians we have put enhancements over the top of the lifting nail and baby it by changing the nail once a week until it completely grows out. No one and I mean literally no one wants to walk around without a nail because that can be extremely damaging to the nail bed hence the reason why we have nails to begin with. That green stuff literally is not something to get seriously concerned about 👍🏽

But I thought whatever happens to the nail, like with our hair that is already dead and can’t be regenerate, I thought nails have to grow out. Whatever damage is done is done. I don’t know a thing about greenies. Can greenies be cleaned off the nail? Or it always has to be grown out? If that’s the case, what truly is the harm in covering it with acrylic? Maybe it grows more? Is it a germ? Infection? Mold? Fungus?

A greenie is bacteria called pseudomonas. You should not clean them off of the nail because doing so would thin out the nail. Thinning out the nail can result in a painful nail. If you let them be they will grow out with ot without and extension/overlay on them. There is no harm covering it with acrylic, it just needs to be watched closely.

Some of the responses make it seem like a disease. 🤣🤣🤣 Most times it's just nail fungus from too much moisture getting trapped under acrylics, press-ons, etc. It happens! Give your nails a break and soak the affected nail in vinegar. It should go away pretty soon thereafter!🙂

Tha but the nail place is over here. They don’t care if you have that they’ll put long extensions extra long extensions on that they want that money they don’t care about your Nails health.

Greenie hurts too. I use to get this all the time from being a dishwasher 20+ years ago as well as a SHADY nail salon I used in my tiny town. Haven’t had one since I quit working there as well as started going to a REAL salon in the adjoining town

OKI just read that it's not Neal fungus. But I still don't understand that. Because i've got my nails done plenty of times and feelings and i've never had this green stuff on my nails

Isn't the green stuff nail fungus like you can't put anything on top of nail fungus. It's just gonna make it worse. You have to treat the nail fungus. So that means no nails until it's gone
