My dad was in the emergency room before he went to the ICU. I played this song on my phone and put one ear bud in his ear and the other in mine. He had a stroke and could no longer communicate and I held his hand and cried while the song played. My dad showed me this song and it will always be our song.

When my daughter turned 16 she was living with her father in another state. I sent this to the radio station in her town with a letter wishing her a happy birthday. My letter and this song won the contest for the day. It has been our song every since. We send it back and forth since that day. I’m 69 and she is 50 this year. We are best friends and our love can move mountains.

My dad and I suffered from my mother’s abuse: and when I was little my daddy would play this song and sit in my room with me till I fell asleep because I was so stressed from my moms bullshit. (Mind you I was 8/9) I’m 27 years old now, and to this day; I can turn this song on and really think “I need my dad” and my phone will ring. 🖤💜✨ there’s something truly magic about this song.

Unfortunately she is getting dimentia now and it's even worse. Anytime she sees me she tells me everything I'm doing wrong and never ever has one good thing to say. She told me that a lady that goes to my church is POS the other day. Her exact words. Just crazy sh--. But I've learned I wasn't put here to please her or anyone else for that matter. Took me a long time to realize that. Once I finally realized that my life has been much much better. Misery loves company but I refuse to let her bring me down any more. It's a shame for her own sake that she is completely miserable 24 hrs. a day. I'm not sure what is the cause of the misery. I got her to go to counseling once with me like 10 years ago and we left she said my counselor was an idiot and told I was an idiot for going to see the counselor. Haha. It's almost getting comical to me at this point.

Just dropping this here to vent. I lost my 2nd dad less than a year ago. My mom remarried after my dad passed away. My stepdad is wonderful and loved my mom so much, treated her like a queen. And then, he passed away too. It was all of a sudden. He just complained of a tummy ache on Sunday morning. Took him to ER. He was then transferred to ICU on Monday evening. He passed away Wednesday evening. All those time from Sunday morning, we did not see him due to COVID restrictions. At first it was only tummy ache, then complications. It was all of a sudden, losing someone like that and not being able to be there next to them. Tonight, my friend's dad got rushed to ICU due to pneumonia. He is in the 70s. After losing someone so quick, I'm paranoid when people get rushed to the hospital. You'll never know when it is the last conversation you will have. Take your time. Cherish each moment. Be there for somebody.

I think of this song often. I’m a veteran and wasn’t dealing well with PTSD (didn’t know I had it at the time), I had a buddy who talked me out of suck-starting a shotgun, just simply by being there for me. He didn’t know what I was considering, but by simply telling me that people cared about me made all the difference. Thanks Steve for being my friend, I owe my life to you.

Praying for you. I also didn’t realize that I had PTSD. I chalked it up to just having a short fuse. The Army changed me. I’ve battled depression and anxiety. I learn to cope with it by being an ENCOURAGER to others, every day. Seeing them smile is my medicine, of choice. #PTSDisReal.

Thanks man. I appreciate what you do. I've been in those hospitals few times myself. It sure helps make the patients stay go s little easier when there is staff like you. A little compassion & empathy makes such a difference. It's never been pleasant for me when I have been on lockdown etc, but I never forgot the cool security guard in one ward who used to show me little magic tricks to make me smile. When I first got there, I was very suicidal and I would just pace the hallways at night because I couldn't sleep. He was a big Samoan guy who was always posted up by the door. He told me, "You're the saddest girl I ever seen in here, so I'm going to have to try & find a way to make you smile". The magic tricks worked. ❤️

I left home when I was 20 or so. My mom and I always enjoyed each other’s company. She used to take me out of school early just to spend time with me. When I grew up I didn’t call her enough. I don’t know why. She’d ask “Why don’t you call more?! I want to talk to you baby!”. I always loved how she’d say “baby”, or how she said my name. Or how she always knew the right things to say to soothe my mind. She died a few years ago and I just weep every time I listen to this song. The music, wisdom and life she shared with me is never gone. This one is for mom

At 5 years old I continued to sing this song at his bedside. Now at 24 years old I can send him this song through text message or Instagram or just play it on KZitem when lifes challenges become over whelming. He'll respond with a " thank you mom I feel better now." Thank you James Taylor and Carole King for your so awesome and beautiful song with such beautiful lyrics. When you're down and troubled And you need some lovin' care And nothin', nothin' is goin' right Close your eyes and think of me And soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night You just call out my name And you know, wherever I am I'll come runnin' To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend If the sky above you Grows dark and full of clouds And that old north wind begins to blow Keep your head together And call my name out loud Soon you'll hear me knockin' at your door You just call out my name And you know, wherever I am I'll come runnin', runnin', yeah, yeah To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes, I will Now, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend When people can be so cold? They'll hurt you, yes, and desert you And take your soul if you let them Oh, but don't you let them You just call out my name And you know, wherever I am I'll come runnin', runnin', yeah, yeah To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there, yes, I will You've got a friend You've got a friend Ain't it good to know you've got a friend Ain't it good to know, ain't it good to know Ain't it good to know You've got a friend Oh, yeah, now, you've got a friend Yeah baby, you've got a friend Oh, yeah, you've got a friend

A friend of mine sang this song to me with a band playing at my local bar one evening. I was in a sad place after getting blindsided with a divorce I never saw coming. My boys were 5abd 2years old. Their mom sold the house, moved to another city and married another. This song performed for me lifted my spirit and healing did happen over time. Many thanks to my old friend, Margaret Beth.

I was 16, my 1st girlfriend Bernie C. I was tall and lanky and she tiny, we would walk around the parks and rivers arm in arm. My first ever kiss was on a sloping river bank where I would have to go further down the bank so as we could kiss. One of the most wonderful times in my life. I returned to live in the same area after 40 years and still return to that same river bank and wonder what happened to the sweetest of girls. I floated home in pure happiness after that first kiss. An innocent time. This song reminds me of her. Thanks for the song and the memory of Bernie.

But gave up all the bar playing and opening up for famous people when I had my son which I have custody of. But I play in a praise band at church. And I love it. People come up to me and ask me if I've ever had any songs recorded. I have a producer who wants to record me who's won Grammy awards buy I'm just fine where I am. Many can't understand that. This song is the essence of her. She loved us so hard and never fails of always being there for us for anything and everything. I'm 59 and youngest of 7 children and she was the comfort, love, confidant and always there for each one of us. She did it with tenderness, love, and prayers... always praying for her children. God Bless you mamí. I'll feel u with me in my times of hurt and loneliness as well as times of happiness. I love you precious beautiful mamí. Que Diosito te bendiga.

It's crazy. My dad, rest his soul, loved this song and always sang it at the local after a few drinks. Lost him in 2015 to suicide and he never met my little girl who is only 2 and what's crazy, and brings a genuine tear to my eye is that she loves this song because of Shrek and for me, that's almost like my dad's way of saying hi to his granddaughter. It's always playing in my head how he'd have been like with her. I know without a doubt he'd love and adore her just like she would him. It's great to have things like this to always remind me of him and the fact that my little girl loves this song makes it all the more special for me.
