I have this book and it’s great. It helped me add a few projects to my cv and help getting an internship while in my second year at college.

Hey. By adding few projects to CV, do you mean you recreated projects given in book or you had assignment project and came up with your own code?

@@Neotenyx Due to the fact that it was a student CV i added the project description in a project section. I had private links to the code I used, which I tried to optimise over the code in the book just so that it showed I was learning and not copying verbatim. I also didnt orignally mention they were from a book, the thought just hadnt crossed my mind.

I think I'm exactly in the situation you describe at the beginning and I'm really having a hard time putting all the things I've learned to practice and get some decent routine. Thank you for the run-through, I didn't know about the book before but it sounds incredible fun to work on projects that mix science and gaming to put your Python skills to practice. I also love the comedy factor! Book: ordered.

I had just searched for a review of this book on your channel just last week! What a timing. On another note I would love your take on this: I'm turning 27 on June, studied industrial engineering (just because) but I don't work as an industrial engineer and I wouldn't want to. I worked as a credit clerk for 2 years 9 months, then I managed to climb a position (thanks to my python experiments automating some reports with pandas) as a "Financial Planning and Analysis Analyst" it's been 10 months of that now. Pay is okay for Mexico's average but not great. I live in my parents house. Growth would require me to stay for another 8 months in that position to unlock permission to move into another position withing the company. My scripts and programs work to some extent but I've been developing them as I can with my not professional experience. Probably not with the best practices or strategies. I feel isolated in my position, my department and team is not "software oriented" nor trained. I've been studying python and learning web tech for some time now, I've had a few interviews although I haven't applied to many, however I do feel close to getting a job in tech. The dilema is, I don't know if I should get into a bachelor's degree on CS, my expectations would be that I could get strong CS foundations I guess and finally know what I'm doing?? Studying the BCS, would mean I wouldn't be working though, my gf is 29, we work in the same company, we've been dating for almost 2 1/2 years, she's very supportive but I do feel some responsibility there to sort of have something to show for. I've read and really enjoyed automate the boring stuff with python, previous to that, I completed the course of Python 4 everybody on Coursera, data structures and algorithms with JavaScript on freeCodeCamp, the data analyst with python track form datacamp, read understanding the digital world by B. Kernighan (great book) etc.. The alternative would be to keep learning on my own, I believe I'm getting better at learning. Then try to get into tech without s CS degree. But without a formal structure I don't know if what I'm learning is the optimal way. Or if I could reach a level compared to that of a BCS. My head is a mess, sorry for the length of this. Thanks for what you do, really enjoy your content. Keep it up.

I can't really advise you other than to say 27 isn't that old. In 5 years you'll look back and think 'I was young then, now I really am too old!'. I'm not saying at 32 you would be too old but whatever you want to do will be more difficult than it is now. You might have children or more committments. How realistic is it that you could get a SWE job now, without a CS degree? Have you considered a Master's, would your current job fund you to do a Master's part time? Can you find a job that's closer to what you want where you could be mentored? Do you have anyone in your network that could advise you, if not can you grow your network? Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Thank you for replying. The master programs I reviewed, appear to requiere certified CS foundations already, so that was a little discouraging. I will be thinking about the points you mentioned. Thank you.

@@YuyinSports You should talk to admissions people at universities about master's programs and not just rely on what the 'brochure' says about entry requirements. Since you have a degreee in engineering you have a good maths foundation already and you can presumably put together a portfolio of python projects. This might be acceptable for some universities, if not they can give you some further advice.

Why do you prefer learn on books instead of video courses?
@Tommy_007

One reason: When reading you have to think and work harder to understand (which can increase learning). Watching passively can give the illusion of having learned something.
