10 months ago I realized that many tracks of ambient guitar that I did were similar in many ways. So I put them together and made an album with those songs. But in my case it was something full of improvisation, I simply made the "noises" according to the feeling that I had at the moment of the creation of the track. This album I made is called "A Place Full of Troubled Thoughts", and have 59 minutes. I posted here on my youtube channel. I accept this challenge, sir. I'm working on a lot of music, it's another musical genre, but i will give a little time and do this ambiente guitar album. Definitely will be fun!

I am the master of Unfinished work. This helps because I have so many songs that I started recording and didn't finish I got at least 40 right now that I have to get back to and finish the final Productions. I do agree that the less tracks you have the more efficient you are but sometimes you just need those extra Harmony tracks over the guitars

I got a good advice: don't take yourself too seriously. Let those small mistakes be and don't polish all the edges smooth. Let your character be heard. I do agree that constraints are a good thing. I haven't changed my live board since august or september, and I downsized in the summer. Less options, less hazzle, more playing. I use Audacity for recording, because it's simple and I really don't need much options. I don't need any plug-ins and my recording routine is pretty simple. It has to sound good going in and then I only mix the volumes and do some panning if I want stereo, but that's it. The results keep getting better and I rather focus on practicing than try to fix something that doesn't sound good in the first place. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy making music!

Hi, I greatly admire your work in this genre of guitar playing. No pointy shredding guitar work which gives headaches. No tabs or shouty vocals, just ethereal haunting music in the style of Hans Zimmer. I'm torn between dry inputs and working on them in Acid Pro. utilising Valhalla Shimmer for the reverb and other relevant VST plug-ins which replace your various suggested physical pedals. I mainly record dry and you don't need me to suggest that each 'built up' track can be non destructively adjusted on each assigned bus. If a mistake is made perhaps on a looper then there's no going back, the whole lot has to be re-recorded. Your work does inspire me to stop playing covers or 'tunes' I'm past all that. Just keep going and thanks for your music. York UK

@@korolev-musictodriveby6583 Interesting idea. If I wanted to figure out how to approach drumming as the featured instrument in an ambient piece, I think I'd go back to the original definition of ambient music from Brian Eno. Eno composed his ambient music to "...accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting." How would you do that with drums?

@@chordsoforion definitely going to. The only thing missing was an audio interface. I have been meaning to get one so it's on order. Be here in couple days. Will experiment with it this week and recording. I created a spreadsheet, with info on each track I will mostly put in info later. Like title and so so on. I have defined the keys I want to stick to on each track. I am only doing one key per track keeping it simple. I am going to just use my pedals on my pedal board. I do gig out. But this gives me compressor, octave pedal, wah and volume then have a Marshall amp I will use for clean distortion and overdrive. Then in the effects loop I have chorus, delay and reverb. So this week experiment with chord progressions and inversions etc. Then also learning to use my audio interface and DAW.

Here is a thought on composition, if you are stuck at that point. I compose ambient music on the fly on keyboards. I find that grabbing a scale and just staying within those bounds lets me flow chord progressions. The messing around within the chords gives the suggestion of melody but there really isn't one. It is a huge fake-out, but it sounds cool through all the keyboards and MIDI modules at once.

Aight, I always thought I wouldn't have the skills to make the music I liked without much more practise but this I'll actually take part in! Ambient music doesn't need to be over the top technical, so I'll give it a serious go. My little checklist: Got my scarlet 2i2 for recording, my 7 string bass for most of the ambience/drone (because range) and my fretless for the melodies (because yum!), maybe I'll switch it up a bit (with different guitars/basses or my didge) for different songs and I guess I'll download Reaper bc my Cubase trial has run out long ago. I just hope I can still log into my BiasFX (or else free plugins it is). For inspiration I'll take the music I like (Jazz, Technical Death Metal, Prog, Math Rock) but I'll take the underlying chords/progressions/etc. that elicit the feeling I'm going for and simplify it a whole bunch, so it'll have the spirit of what I like but will have it boiled down to the essentials. This is gonna be fun!

Miiiight actually join you, I ordered a Red Panda Tensor as a late christmas present for myself just the other day, should arrive next week so timing is really good. I have a lot of old projects to finish but I really don't want to involve the Tensor pedal in the old stuff but instead get to know it by recording brand new things.

@chordsoforion - awesome idea. Off topic question - I like the production quality of your videos. 1) What camera are you shooting with and 2) how are you getting your audio - lavalier mic or boom? Thx!

Traditional English Morris dance tunes it is! Baritone acoustic, and, say, just my three favourite ipad effects apps (Borderlands granular!). Ok then.

Perfect timing for this challenge as I intended to make another EP today. This will ensure I procrastinate less. I think. I'm not sure. Let's see. :D
