This song-- their 3rd release on the Atco label from 1957-- was their first national R n’ B #1 hit (as was the flip, “Searchin’”). The Coasters were formed in the mid-50s from some original members of L.A.’s Robins (west-“coasters,” Carl Gardner and Bobby Nunn). Their association with songwriters, Leiber and Stoller, produced multiple big hits. Members changed throughout their history, and I am not familiar enough with them to identify the singers in this video (except for Speedo and Carl). But, in the 70s, “most of the time,” they consisted of 4 of the following: Carl Gardner (lead), Earl Carroll (former lead of the Cadillacs), Billy Guy, Ronnie Bright (bass?) or Alvin Morse. Earl introduces the song and Carl recreates his original lead.
