aww, madam Leong's passing is bringing tears to my eyes. She reminds me so much of my mom who also worked in the food industry for a lifetime before she passed. She still had alot of spirit and a smile to the end. Bless you Madam Leong...RIP. Bless all the hawkers for their work ethic and dreams. I only hope they find happiness and joy in what they do.

Cna, you need to do your homework. Padang is the capital city of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Nasi Padang, of course, is from Padang, not Malaysia. If you visit Indonesia, you can find a lot of Nasi Padang restaurants throughout the country

clearly nasi padang is rice from padang, not malay. if its malay, it will be named nasi malay. just like Gula melaka. it is from melaka. if its from java then it named Gula jawa. despite in fact those gulas are the same thing basically.

wanna blame them also cannot. The high inflation and the high working hours are not attractive to any youngsters who has the choice of working in the office. Last time i helped my mother's stall, she worked 14hrs a day in a hot, tight and injury-prone environment. The money made is not only depends on weather, environment, competition, even various festival dates. All hawkers will get permanent work-related injuries. Prices increased by 20 cents, yall complain. You want to do that or not?

Indeed, while the PAP ministers are living on lands that can house multiple Olympic size swimming pools and football fields, many elderly Singaporeans are cleaning hawker centers or collecting cardboards.

Minister Desmond Lee also came out with out of touch comments about Singaporeans accepting high-price BTO flats in mature estates. Given a choice, Singaporeans would gladly bargain down the price. Is that allowed?

It is certainly cheap for those on a million-dollar salary. But then again, millionaires would hardly be eating out at hawker centres on a daily basis - unlike the rest of us. The assumption is Singaporeans are rich

The irony is that the harder they try, the more apparent it is that they have become out of touch with realities on the ground. Can the Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat still be considered a golden nest egg?

If the flat declines in value with age, potentially plummeting to zero value, it becomes a constant source of worry.

“Some of the stalls listed moved here from coffee shops. They believe that hawker centre vendors enjoy government subsidies during the epidemic, so it is more secure to set up stalls in hawker centres. ”

The vadai store owner looks and sounds snobbish. Otherwise, naming this series ‘the belly of the nation ‘ is so wonderful . It neatly captures the nuances of the subject matter
