Why would you put your hand in ANY machinery? Even qualified engineers whose job it is to service any kind of machine will disable it before carrying out any work unless the task specifically requires it to be functioning and even then they will have safety procedures for that.

Rob I lost 4 but I wasn't even putting my hand anywhere no said it cut or anything I lost 4 fingers because was not trained and I was put in a machine with defect ...but I understand what you are saying but again if a person knew im sure they wouldn't of put there hand anywhere near

But you must remember, she's 19, and is a girl, so she's likely never had proper experience or training with a machine before to understand that. besides, people make mistakes, even experienced people can lose fingers on machinery due to not following proper instructions and shutting the machine down before servicing.

I went to elementary school with Jennifer Fourchalk and her brother. Yes it really must have been scary since the only thing I remember her getting operated on were her tonsils in grade 1. Her mom has always been jittery like like for as long as I remember but just because she is gardening doesn't mean she's rubbing it in I think it just may be relaxing and calming for her about that particular subject.

A lady I worked with told me she got the tip of her finger cut off by a saw. Now she has a phantom finger. She said that even though the end of her finger is missing, sometimes the nerves make it feel like her whole finger is still there. Man I almost did a backflip when she told me that! Crazy but true.

Pizza dough should NEVER be rolled. Pizza is not a giant cookie. Pizza should be formed from a fluffy yeast dough which has been left to rise for two days. Rolling it out will just press out all the air from the dough and the pizza will turn out dry.

My husband saved his shop teacher in High School when the teacher was demonstrating a wood lathe. His tie got caught and was choking him. My husband reached over, stopped it, backed it up and freed the teacher. He was named shop foreman for the next 4 years, had access to all the facilities, and to the teacher's office where coffee and weed were the perks. We also had a girl get scalped by a belt sander. That was gross. She lost 1/3 of her scalp and hair. She successfully sued.:(

With slack training I lost 13mm off the end of a finger in a machine with a hidden cable cutting device. Initialy I thought I had just trapped it as I felt a pinch but as I pulled my hand away I realised it had cut it cleanly off. It didn't bleed instantly, it was like looking at the end of a swiss roll! But then there was a fountain of blood. I told my newly qualified first-aider mate I had cut myself and he ran off panicing! The hospital couldn't sew it back because the cut was too clean.

@Macil2018 People are often not aware of the danger that machinery pose. Educating people about that danger, and teaching operators how to effectively minimize the risks associated with operating heavy machinery is essential. If you have some experience with power tools, and heavy machinery it's likely you have a healthy respect for the damage they can do to your body. However, not everyone has the benefit of that experience, and subsequent respect.

Proper training is important, but at what point does "common sense" play a factor? While running the sheeter she had long sleeves / loose clothing which can easily get caught. Also, long hair left loose is a Foodsafe issue. On top of that she decided to poke her hand into the machine WHILE IT WAS RUNNING. The belt moves (relatively) slowly so if she insisted on cleaning a dough-wad out of it while it was running, would it have been too difficult to use a fork or a pen or something else?

The Dr. said it would hurt more because it was crushed off rather then cut off. Ya it was a stupid thing to get to close to. but we all do stupid things sometimes. The worst thing you can do is tell someone (well that was a stupid thing to do) I wanted to smash anyone who said that to me. One guy did and a year later he grabed a moving V belt. Smart hu?
