I remember the first time I saw Federer. Wimbledon fourth round in 2001. I was a huge Sampras fan and this kid just comes out and hits impossibly gorgeous shot after gorgeous shot and takes down Sampras when I didn't think anyone could beat Sampras at WImbledon. I actually called my Dad and told him to watch the highlights. I think I said, "I think I just saw the new best tennis player in the world. This kid is unbelievable." He was even better than I thought.

A couple of observations. 1) How strange to see Federer playing in front of empty stands, and on outer courts in some cases. 2) He's got some of the best hands in the history of the game, along w/ McEnroe. A lot of these great shots, even the "lucky" stabs, work because he has the hands to control the racquet face at the moment of impact. Practice hones that, but there's a level of natural athletic ability which most of us just don't possess, even other top players.

The point at 2:19 just screams Federer! I wonder how many times he has played that exact series of shots (even the forehand frame lol)

You know what tennis was always missing? Upbeat music! Other than that, good vintage Fed videos.

The young Federer was absolutely insane.. he got his first GS win at the very young age of 22 *Nadal had already won 5 GS titles by the same age* Djokovic also won one earlier than Roger The only difference is both Djokovic and Nada are still winning GS's..

Yup. Djokovic and especially Nadal (who was a monster) were better youngsters than Federer. And both have won more slams than him in their 30s.

@@rafagoat575 It's funny that if another player comes along and betters Nadal or Novak's records.. You take your hat off to them and accept the facts. But these sad Fedfans are a joke. They would rather see Djokovic lose than Federer win.
