as a fellow singaporean who spends hours watching vanlife videos i really do admire this one (and only) sg couple for stepping out of the norm to pursue this lifestyle that is commonly frowned upon in our society & giving me hope that it’s possible that i can do it too one day

Inspiring! I think more Singaporeans should adopt your attitude towards life. I am a Singaporean and every freaking day I am reminded that we should plan for retirement, up-skilling ourselves so that we remain relevant in the workforce, continuous learning so that we can have a purposeful old age... and, recently, we are so proud that a 20+ years old youth started putting money in the supplementary retirement scheme accounts... it's just ridiculous... watching your video helps to put things in perspective - there are different ways to live and it is possible to be carefree... Thanks for sharing your journey...

As a Singaporean I can only commend you on this. It takes balls of steel to decide 'screw it I'm going to travel the world IN A VAN', especially being from Singapore where we've been taught since young the traditional ways of living. Thank you for being different and paving the way for youths like me.

You mean, too "materialistic" right? I lived and worked in Singapore for ten years, and married a local; and i really like the City. But it is too materialistic and kiasu for my tastes. I'm back in Canada, which i was shocked to find it 13,000 times the size of Singapore and mostly empty. You can still buy arable land here for SGD $300-500 an acre.

I really hope your insulation can withstand the cold weather in Europe as i never come across a camper van using coconut fiber before..i think it is a good idea to invest in a bit of expensive insulation because well..weather can be your worst enemy..huhuhu.. Your water filter need to be attached to your van so it wont fall down when u hit rough road..u never know what the other country’s road condition might look like especially in Myanmmar (hilly road). Invest in tires that can go in all condition..u dont want to get stuck easily in sand or mud. The way she answered “what business” in a blank expression is killing me..as if she never knew that will coming..in fact that is the first question i would ask if i see a camper van..whether it has portable toilet or not and if not how u going to solve it. Best of luck to Portugal..the journey will be worth a lifetime experience.
@slinkywinks

Totally agree! Inspirational story indeed but impractical vehicle for making such a long trip through so many countries. They're going to need a toilet. Most of that journey is going to be in remote areas with no internet, no motels which they're expecting to stay at. Terrains change, weather conditions change and hopefully that 15 year old van can hold up to the wear and tear. Interior is cute but everything is going to need to be tied down and secured a lot better than that. Insulation is definitely lacking for colder climates. Looks aren't everything if it's not going to be practical. They'll have a tough journey with that setup but hopefully they're come out of it more experienced for next time.

oh, finally I saw Singaporean go for van life, wish you good and enjoy your journey, and please don give up halfway. I've travel in Malaysia times in the past few years, except this year, just took leaves plus public holidays, I hope my VEP still valid and my T&Go card still valid, to sad this year for all over the world. myself, my plan is when I hit my 55 or 60, I will buy myself a campervan(must be second-hand) and travel around the whole Europe and China and all the way back to Singapore. the only issue is, this campervan cannot be registered under my name, otherwise I cannot drive it back to Singapore, I want to say the 3 alphabets.

Well done to take a major step M&J in your young lives to venture into the relatively unknown. No doubt you are one of the very few who have ventured into vanlife made popular elsewhere especially Europe and America. No doubt will follow your journey as I have thoughts of doing it one day in Asia. Must say that what comes to mind is the stifling weather and how to keep cool and also the environment which is still unaccustomed to vanlife especially the safety side of living outside. No doubt you will have many many wonderful and impressionable experiences through your journey especially through Asia, Middle East and Europe. What a journey it is going to be and can't wait to watch your experiences. I will hope to give you tips whenever I can as I'm an avid self sustainable kind of person. My wish is to show young people how to live off grid, grow own organic food, generate free energy and build natural houses and do our part with recycling. I wish you both the very best and keep up the vegan/vegetarian lifestyle. You are doing the right thing and I'm very sure you will have a massive following. My wish is to set up a moneyless community in Borneo and to have great people doing their part to enhance community living.

That’s the way to travel when u r young…most young Singaporean will get a job n start working after graduation.good for both of u. My story, i , 20 years then , hitchhiked with an army buddy after ROD in 1972 from Singapore to England in the hippie era n tons of youngsters were doing that too. It was easy ,at the same time tough . Had a blast, met a Canadian girl during the hike, had a long distance phone (no internet then) relationship n i emigrated to Canada in 1977 n we got married, ,retired now….still together, 2 adult children n 4 grandchildren… Those were the days…great memories…I bet both of your van life will provide tons of memories too….n it’s documented in UTube …👍👍
