I use the ol plink test to figure out which ones are copper or zinc. Zincolns feel lighter and make a "plonk" noise when dropped on a hard surface. Copper cents feel physically heavier and will make a nice bell-like ping/ring

Once again another great video! The 1982-D small date bronze Lincoln penny was long theorized but was a coin whose existence was never numismatically confirmed until the first example appeared in 2016. The AU58 specimen sold for a stunning $18,800 at a 2017 Stack's Bowers Galleries auction.

First, thanks for your videos. You explain things fairly well, without a lot of extra talking. Many of the others either talk too fast, yoo slow, or draw the video out, like they are trying to keep the viewer in suspense. I have finally got back into going through my coins. I do throw them into separate jars, to make it easier. Now I just need to go through them. I've been watching several coin videos, lately, and it's not easy remembering everything to look for.

I tell people the way to tell the difference is that the large date 2 will have a ‘duck tail’ and the small date 2 has a ‘swan neck’. When you put the two side by side it really rather obvious. Like seeing English letters next to Egyptian hieroglyphics. It’s THAT different!

How much would a small d 1982 probably zinc with error be worth?
@bryanscott7154
2 жыл бұрын
One of the problems why people get confused about this subject. Is there are people posting the 82 d copper small on Esty and Ebay for up 40,000 dollars. You like to think they have no idea what their doing. In most cases their looking for a newbie to take the bait. Case if they sell the coin for that kind of money. If the sucker never realize till later. They made a ton of money. If some body complained. All of a sudden the sight disappeared.

I have a ryedale coin sorter. I save copper cents. I have noticed about two thirds of the 82 cents are copper and the other third are zinc. I have rolls and rolls of these 82 copper pennies but it sounds like it is so rare to find one of these transitional pennies that its probably not worth looking through my copper.

Its all a collectors "eye of the beholder" coin search. I have many 1982 P&D large date (assume copper) and 1982 P&D small date (assume zinc). So what if I don't have the other 3 variants (or 4 or double die). Its like having like the most collectors won't have the 1927-S Standing Liberty quarter but circulated with under 50,000 minted and it doesn't gain "eye of the beholder" nostolgia.

even rarer than that penny is a person who will actually bother to google something before asking a question in a comment section. Usually people ask questions here for attention, not for answers. Fighting that is fighting a losing battle.
