The funniest hair rumor is how people explain the mechanics of the “squish to condish” method for me lol. People say the squishing motion “pushes the water into the cuticle” or “forces the conditioner to work with water” and hydrate the hair or whatever but that’s just ridiculous. The reason it works is that you can’t properly rinse off the conditioner with this method- so you’re automatically using your conditioner as a leave-in.

Nooo don't do that! I also have low porosity, very fine low density hair. I use a little of the smoothie then gel on wet hair after washing for my wash and go styler but as an alternative (and I use it as a day 2/3/4/5 refresher spray) mix about 1 part of the shea moisture curl smoothie to 4 parts water in a spray bottle and shake it up a lot, and it makes a really really good lightweight styler! This works because the smoothie is also water based- the first ingredient is water- like a conditioner. So you can water down lots of products and turn them into a spray that way!

I enjoy seeing my growth and have taken to banding two sections to motivate myself to go past my nipple length while I learn how to keep my hair healthy as well as getting wind on my scalp. I can’t use bands because that’s where my hair breaks but without them my hair mats close to my scalp…and it’s back to protective styling. I’m working on something that includes clay to define my scalp curls. If I could ask for only one breakdown/tutorial video…I’ve recently become secretly obsessed with hyaluronic acid powder for hair but there is literally ZERO VIDEOS about how it works for our hair and how to incorporate it into a diy in effective percentages…if you would be the first, please

What a great video! My fave leave in conditioner is Shea Moisture JBCO Leave In Conditioner. When it comes to the rinse-out conditioners, I don't use them anymore; I have replaced with the "deep conditioner". It just seems like I'm overdoing it with both, when the two products have the exact ingredients. I've come to learn that it is either/or for the conditioners. A rinse out conditioner may be enough for someone, who just "wants" or "needs" a light conditioning to the hair, considering their hair texture, i.e., the 3A-3C range, but for my type 4B/C hair, the deep conditioner works the best. Now I combine the r/o conditioners I have with HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTEIN to perform my protein treatment, then do a deep condition. Thanks again for clearing up the difference. New subscriber here. Awesome that I came upon your channel. I also follow Dr. Alexis who was a chemical formulator turned Dermatologist. I love the science of it all. I majored in Chemistry myself in college so I just love when I see us utilizing our knowledge and showing has science affects so many things in our life even the science involved in hair and beauty products in addition to showing how great God really is when you break down his handy work and how things work together….Anyway, I digress 😬. Thank you for what am sure will be great content as I start to catch up on watching your prior post.

Oh, thank you for this video. I tried my hand at making a leave-in and it works very well, but it STINKS so bad. Had an important engagement to go to this week, so I used conditioner to tame my hair and it smells very nice. I thought I'd better wash it out because its conditioner and not to be used as a leave-in. Bless you for this great video. I always look forward to them.

A rumor Ive heard more often is the NEED for a pre poo, which I dont use - I just keep my hair moisturized. My favorite leave in is the camielle rose curl love moisture milk! I also dilute my Pattern beauty intensive conditioner and use as a leave, as an alternative, goes really well with my UFD curly magic - the only gel I use. Thanks for all the great content!

If you have a coarse, high density, 4c coils like mine, you'll appreciate prepooing. African Pride Prepoo is so affordable and works like magic! It's a good start towards a great wash day.

@@uberhaute_naturalz84 thanks for sharing! I have fine 4a strands, medium density and my hair gets more tangled and resistant to shampoo with prepooing first. Im also just not a fan of the extra step, especially because without fail i deep condition every time I wash my hair. But it sounds like its working really well for you :-).

@@kreyol539 honestly, without a prepoo, no comb no matter how strong it is can enter my hair because it is extremely thick, dense and coarse, however, since I started prepooing, headaches were reduced😄😄😄 and my curl pattern became visible!

@@uberhaute_naturalz84 your hair sounds beautiful! The pros and cons of having all those luscious thick coils. What really changed the game for me is cowashing first before i shampoo w/ camielle rose morrocan conditioner then the most moisturizing shampoo EVER for me, the curlmix shampoos (any version). They are a dream, but their conditioner did nothing for me 🤭.

Hi, can you do a video on whether water (moisture) can penetrate through synthetic hair fibre. I recently undid one of my box braids after spraying it, and my real hair was as dry as the sahara desert. I have a suspicion that when we spray our hair, the moisture only stay on the synthetic hair (because it's basically plastic, and water can't penetrate through plastic)

Rumor: I heard that Deep Conditioning is wishful thinking. I don't know how true this is. Favorite: I love TGIN Green Tea Leave-in. I use it full strength on wash day and dilute it with distilled in a spray bottle as my moisturizer for the rest of the week. Great video as usual.

I've heard (from some cosmologists) that deep conditioning is a process and not a product. I've also heard that you can't deep condition with a regular conditioner (from other cosmetologists). Which one is it?

regarding your 2nd question, i recently watched a video from sarah ingle that left me thoroughly confused. There she cites a bunch of studies and debunks (?) protein and moisture overload and explains that hair does not need moisture but only conditioning. Can you react to it please??? The title is "Your Hair Isn't Dry... The Biggest Hair Lie | Hair Science". Thank you!

Hey, I'm hair stylist in the UK. My favourite leave in conditioner is KeraCare Natural Textures. Only use this for twists /twists out. If I'm going to use heat I use conditioner and just a heat protectant. We don't really need a leave in conditioner I think, it's just a perk to add to your hair product collection.

My favorite conditioner is Kinky Curly Knot Today (I usually leave it in, but sometimes I rinse it out). I have heard that you can't use a rinse out conditioner as a leave-in because the pH is wrong for a a leave-in and it will damage your hair.

Thanks for this info. Now I can just add some water to my favorite conditioner which is the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditioner. Haven't heard any rumors about hair care lately but I do have a question about pre-pooing. You stated in one of your videos that if a person has high porosity hair then they should definitely be pre-pooing. So what exactly is a pre-poo and how does one do it? I'm relatively new to the natural hair community (relaxed hair for 42 years) so I need all the help I can get. I could never understand how no matter how much I moisturize my hair, it would still be dry. Now I'm thinking I might have that hygral fatigue I'm hearing about.

False...our hair is naturally made up of water (about 20-30%). In addition, when we wet our hair it absorbs water, which enables moisture/hydration to enter into the hair.
@XEveryoneLovesEmilyX

@@CurlyChemistry She said that the water content in the hair is mainly influenced by the moisture in the air and that dry damaged hair is an oxymoron because hair with a smaller water content looks and feels healthier than more hydrated hair. Did she interpret the studies wrong or are they not showing the whole picture? Is there a difference when it comes to curly hair? Are there any articles you might suggest us to read up on?
@CurlyChemistry
3 жыл бұрын
She could have interpreted it incorrectly, also the source matters as well. Not all articles are science/research based, I would take that info with a grain of salt and do what works best for your hair. However in regards to the topic, I'll definitely check it out and hopefully provide some feedback in a future video. Thanks for sharing Emily! :-)
