The "a good editor thinks outside the box" bit is so brilliant I felt the need to comment on this old video. Found you via the Jim Carrey video (thanks, mystery algorithm), you're doing great work

found you on the editing podcast and loving your stuff. I'm a daily vlogger sometimes I go all the way but sometimes I take the easy way sometimes that's all there is time for but also somedays are better than others and those days sometimes it takes me 7 hours to make a 10 min video. It is satisfying but also sad when less edited videos shoot off and the ones you love get buried. Something Hillier never mentions that I've realized from daily vlogging is that you develop a intuition from doing it so much that would probly take years to develop as someone producing less. You editing is awesome btw really enjoying going through your stuff!

Hey, great video. I wanted to ask: How does a fairly new video editor like me, who wants to become better in doing all kinds of IRL videos (vlogs, travel, workout vids) and literally everything else get to become good by practicing when I can't get my hands on any vlog footage of some voice recording? Is it really necessary to to do (film and voice record) everything myself and become that "vlogger" person in order to gain experience, or I can just focus on my video editing skills while getting footage out of somewhere else? I have more than enough "knowledge" and interest to start editing videos but I just can't find any footage to start with. Could you recommend me what to do? Thank you in advance!

an editor will always be a better editor if they’re also a filmmaker. if you’re keen on becoming a vlog editor, it’s good to go and capture literally anything! no one else has to see it. conversely you can also practice by downloading existing vlogs off YT and recutting it with a different story / tone. thanks for watching!

Love your work! Just very unfortunate you didn't shout out, from what I can tell, any female editors. Especially considering women's place in the cutting room historically... Still such a fantastic video with a lot of really interesting points.

I know I'm a year late BUT if anyone could recommend books on developing either of these skills, I'd love to understand them in a fundamental level if possible, TY!

I know myself well enough to know that I am NOT an editor. HOWEVER, I would love to find an editor to help me with my content. BUT, I'm just starting out, and am BROKE! How do I find an editor when I have little to no budget? I don't want to insult anyone with the pittance I am able to pay. ---- Any recommendations?
@DodfordYT

might be worth paying for an editor’s guidance as opposed to their work. and you don’t need to be an expert to make something effective! I’m always recommending anyone to at least try it so they can know what goes in to it 🤟
