Wish I could've seen trains from all those years ago during their prime. I'm only 26 and am fascinated by how primitive 1st and 2nd generation diesels are compared to today's modern power, yet they still managed to get the job done. Those EMDs, ALCOs, and GEs put on one heck of a show compared to what we have now! Sure modern diesels look and sound amazing, but don't smoke or roar like they used to. You know an SD40-2 is leading a train when you can hear it from 2 miles away. Sometimes you'll get that with a GEVO, AC4400CW, SD70MAC, or SD70ACe, but it isn't the same.

Chicago engineers have a genius sense of humor especially in the homevideos from the 80s and 90s when certain railroad employees snuck a VHS cam in the cab. When asked about travel in Chicago and what they think of it. Some would say because Chicago- *pulls train horn lever* is a city of- *keeps blowing the horn* and Thats that.." The guy with the camera was just losin' it with laughter.

They're big, beautiful, powerful machines built and operated by men and women who take pride and care into their work. What is there to hate about them except for the noise when you're trying to sleep? But hey, if you can't tolerate it, don't live next to the tracks. Although I live near railroad tracks (El Paso, TX near the UP Sunset Route), the only time I get bothered is when an AC4400CW, SD70M, or SD40-2 with an incredibly loud K3LA blasts through at 3AM. But hey, I work third-shift, so I can't complain too much!

I love freight trains since I was a kid back in late 80's see the old Southern Pacific in Southern California near Alhambra Sub and became a hard railfanner in 2016 seeing BNSF at Cajon Sub in the high desert. I met other railfanners on KZitem and one especially in the high desert close to me. I have a good friend that picks me up, go watch and film trains all day and after that then go home. I have another friend that comes from far away to the high desert to photograph trains with us. I remember he said this "How can you share your hobby with someone if you have nobody to share with" it's true I had no one to share my train hobby for a while. Also I have another friend that hangs out with me watching and filming trains as well and he loves the high desert especially we have BNSF mostly and UP sometimes, he has a lot of knowledge about the trains as well, he been my friend for almost 2 years. But now I have new friends because of my train hobby and knowledge.

Railfanning is pretty much a scavenger hunt when you come across locomotives and freight cars that either: 1. Continue to wear the corporate colors and logos of previous railroads that have since been acquired by larger systems (such as Union Pacific and some of its acquisitions like Southern Pacific, Missouri Pacific, Chicago and North Western, among others) 2. Not just far away from home rails (such as when either East Coast railroads CSX or Norfolk Southern showing up on either BNSF or Union Pacific in the west), but also out of their country (such as Canadian National or Ferromex) 3. Were built before the 90's and is rarely used by the major companies.
