I enjoy your energy, but I’m in Michigan and I work hard. I have been told several times that work teams are overwhelmed by me. However,. I am honored by opportunity. I want to do the very best job I can and I want to be able to use results of my work to generate more opportunity. Managers would rather keep the team they can sustain, than to raise their standards. I find I have to tone it down to get a job, but over time I can’t keep pretending. How can I find a firm, where I can be myself and finally be challenged, learn and grow? By the way, I am a minority, so there are social norms unavailable to me at some firms in this state. I am willing to relocate, but cannot pinpoint the indicator that would truthfully tell me where I could fit in and deliver.

Andy, thank you so much for your sample cover letters and info here. I've commented on other videos and see that you actually commented back. This "finding a job" process is extremely exhausting. You have been an invaluable resource as I have watched many of your videos over the past week or so. Thank you so much for providing this much information free of charge. Not many people are willing to help others with anything anymore for free. I am looking into your workshops as well. You have truly been a blessing.

Suzy, so glad I can help you! My approach is to make it as easy for people in this often-difficult job search process. I realize not everyone can afford or has the budget for additional support, so I try to give away as much as I can. It's definitely a balancing act for me too to ensure I can sustain my business and keep offering wonderful free content as well. Lots of luck and I hope to see you Wednesday!

Question: Would you send the same thank you verbiage from the email and in the hand written thank you?

I would not. Make the handwritten on a tiny bit more casual.

I just had a phone interview and they asked if I have salary requirements and after I said I'm flexible I still gave them a range without being explicitly asked to do so. I am so dumb, I have no idea what workers in that position even earn. Why even ask that during a phone interview, so annoying. Hopefully that mistake will gain me entry into an in person interview, and then somehow I can actually negotiate a salary. I just cannot with these interview games anymore.. entry level here

Definitely don't worry about it. You have plenty of time to dazzle them during the interviews. After you do that, you can re-calibrate your expectations. It's common.

How and what should I say in my cover letter if the company asks me about my salary expectations?
@andylacivita

Hi Flora, I always recommend you put "Regarding my salary expectations, I'm open. I'm sure if we're a great match for each other, we'll be able to come to something amenable for both of us!"

Andrew thank you so much. I did exactly what u told me. and they asked me the salary expectations question in the interview. and I had to give a range.. and the range i gave was higher than the actual pay. now they said, since my expectations are so high I should sleep over a night and let them know if I am still interested despite the lower money.. but actually I don't care that much I really want that job.. how should I follow up?

flora sd, if you really want the job, just let them know you are open to a fair offer based on the positions salary range. Let them present you with the offer and then you can decide whether it's enough compensation for you to accept it. I really hope it works out for you!

flora , I hope this isn't to late for you. Here is something I want to highlight. In such a scenario, remember that job offer negotiation isn't only about salary, there are other kind of compensations you may get surprised how willing are they to compromise. For instance, health insurance class, dental , number of paid vacation days, etc.You could also ask for courses for personal and career improvement, etc. I wish you successful job landing. Peace :)

I was just offered a job in a HORRIBLE area in Detroit. I would be the only Caucasian in the company (and the neighborhood, most likely). The place is such a target too. Unreal. Can;t accept the job. But, my social programming tells me not to be a quitter. The angry Father's voice from the past.

How to send salary negotiation email after the verbal conversation is low ball offer. Is it good to show the salary expectations in email or phone?

Thank so much. I have a question. My teacher told me do not ever negotiate salary before you get an offer letter? so which one should i follow
@andylacivita

Ma Ma hi Ma Ma. I've negotiated more than 600 offers. I've found it's best to start your negotiation after you receive the offer, however, the offer could be in a verbal form if the employer wants to get the job candidates initial reaction. It's always better to have the paperwork and details in front of you for sure.

Ma Ma one other thing. Don't be misled by my title. That is for emphasis that you should start building up your points from the very beginning and not trying to play catch up at the end. That was my point. My point wasn't to start actually negotiating. Check my thoughts on the previous comment!!!

Thank you so much. I made an interview 2 days a go , and during interview they mention the salary per hour.. is that a sign that they want to go to the next step with me .. or not
@andylacivita

it depends on the context in which they mentioned it. if they were simply giving you an idea, then it doesn't mean much. But, if they indicated at the end of the process they would like to continue your interviews and were sharing the estimated compensation, that's usually a good sign.
