So good. I've been reflecting on Jame's Clear's quote "you don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems" recently. It's changed how I view the idea of productivity and moreover, my mindset when it comes to getting things done. Building a system that helps me do that in a seamless way has been so integral to me. Thanks for the video Tiago!

Summary 00:00 Information overload is a major challenge in modern life. 00:05 We are bombarded with messages, notifications, and documents. 00:12 Consuming content like books and videos adds to the overload. 00:26 Our brains are not evolved to handle this modern overload. 00:43 Digital productivity apps can help alleviate the overload. 00:50 This framework helps organize information effectively. 00:53 Think of it as a second brain for managing information. 00:56 The framework divides information into two hemispheres. 00:58 The left hemisphere is for analytical tasks and to-dos. 01:01 The right hemisphere is for creative reference. 01:06 The framework distinguishes between actionable and reference information. 01:08 It helps with organizing tasks and incorporating reference material. 01:19 This concept is based on David Allen's book 'Getting Things Done'. 01:39 When information comes in, decide if it's something you need to do soon or keep for future reference. 02:01 Actions that need to be taken should be separated and given more attention. 02:23 Decide if the action needs to be taken at a specific time. 02:38 Use a calendar app for time-specific actions and a task manager for actions without a specific time. 03:39 Separate reference materials from actionable items. 03:43 Notes apps are a convenient way to store digital content. 04:06 Think of notes as a working environment for your ideas. 04:19 Certain content, like large files or shared documents, should be stored in general file storage. 04:36 Consider if the content is actionable or not. 04:43 Decide if the content needs to be maintained in its current format or if it can go in the notes app. 04:53 Research materials that can't be easily turned into other formats should be stored in file storage. 05:11 Beat information overload with a productivity system. 05:23 When feeling overwhelmed, ask what's wrong with your system. 05:37 Struggling to organize your second brain?

@Tiago Forte I am very glad you are covering this topic and would love if you pursued it further in general. All of us are now running into the problem of having more new content/information available than we can physically process, thus making filtering that input of information and actively deciding if new input is worth our limited time/resources the main point ("shutting off the input valve"). Additionally, I am really curious how you deal with information gathering in particular, ex. from browsing for information for research, or else just web-browsing in general. As a creative individual with many interests, I personally have an issue of having tons of stuff I want to read, listen to, watch, keep as a reference for a future project, etc., and therefore open new tabs in my browser for them. Yet as you mentioned, now in an information overload era, I never have time to review and get through them all. ... a few weeks/months of that cycle repeating, and now I have 400+ tabs open and feel stressed that I can't explore everything I deemed as useful/interesting. I am curious how you combat this and what recommendations you have for someone with this issue, as I know everyone is going through the same thing. I would love to see a video from you addressing this. Cheers from Canada/Japan!

Super interesting stuff. I’ve recently been trying to get better organized and saw a video from you before on how to use the notes app(part 4 video i think it was called). I’m hoping this sort of system helps with the adhd mind when it comes to issues of organization,consistency, and attention. Currently I'm managing my notes and tasks using a combination of 'Bullet Journaling' by Ryder Carrol and the second brain system. Looking to learn more about Nick Milos 'Linking Your Thinking' and apply that to my way of working as well. Enjoy the journey of discovering what works for you!

Mr. Tiago, it would be amazing if you can explain what the differences between “Tasks” and “To-Dos” are because to me they seem the same, unless I’m mistaken, of course. Also, In “The Reference hemisphere is for,” section that says “Thinking, Learning, Referring, and Projects,” Isn’t the “Learning” and “Projects” both “Actionable” Tasks or To-Dos that need to be accomplished (even if learning doesn’t specifically have “deadlines?”)
@TiagoForte
10 ай бұрын
Yes, tasks and to-dos are the same. Projects and learning will have tasks associated with them which are best managed in a task manager. But the content is usually best managed in a notetaking app.
