I’ve recently came across your channel by chance, when I was looking for more M. Austin’s instructional videos. I’ve learned his swing method through his videotapes when teaching Mike Dunaway and also through the series of video lessons by Dan Shauger. I picked up this game late in life, after retiring from work, self-taught learning. After going through a few instructional techniques online, some of them are good and successful to some, most noticeably, Shawn Clement of Canada, I must say this Mike Austin technique is the best. It’s easy to learn, easy to the body commonly called “effortless” yet the ball flights are straight with good trajectory and powerful. I think that by simplifying his technique which contains many technical/professional wording…, your work in helping golfers to learn quicker, to eliminate the typical frustration of the game and to enjoy it more is greatly appreciated. Most of all, I’d like to thank you for being honest, straight forward and reasonable; hard to find in today’s many golf instructors, sad to say!

T H, thanks for the kind and thoughtful comments. My reason for starting this channel was to simplify what Austin and Dunaway taught because it’s the best way to swing a golf club and so few people understood what they were teaching. Your words encourage me and help me see that I’m successfully completing my mission.

Hey Matt I bought your on line lesson a few weeks ago. I’m having some problems with the compound pivot. I’m bow legged lol! Knees do not want to turn between my feet. Do you have any tips for me? Thanks and the course is fantastic.

Your knees shouldn’t really be turning between your feet. You’re right they should straighten all your left leg bends at the knee in the backswing, but they don’t really turn. The turning must be done by the ball and socket joints of the hips, that’s the point at which your legs attach to your body. Straightening the right leg and bending the left leg will cause your hips to tilt but then you must actively turn, your hips making your left hip swing around in front of you. I hope this helps.

Matt can you do a video that focuses on the hand action from a frontal view and in slow motion

Very good instructions . I like the simplicity and reliability of the swing system you're demonstrating. You're one of the few instructors who encourages the use of the wrists. Your take away makes the swing simple.

Thanks for this video. I dont seem to get the snap in my long clubs ( e.g. fairway woods and driver ) that i do get on the shorter ones. Hoping this will help . Your videos are great. Much appreciated !

My pleasure. Understanding how the club angles require adjustments will help you find that snap

Hi, is the toe of the irons touching the ground at set up, or up about a coins distance from the ground? Thanks again ,Steve

Steve, that’s very dependent on the make and model of club that you have. Not all irons have the same curvature on the bottom of the club head. More importantly, than the toe and the heel is the center portion of the clubhead. You want the center to be flat to the ground. From that starting point, pushing your hands down to make the toe come up a bit will promote a draw. Lifting your hands up a bit to make the heel come up will promote a fade.

I'm going to try your suggestion.. however, I do see a pitfall at least from my perspective. It seems you are recommending taking the club back with the hands and wrists first, which I would fear would cause a disconnection from my body and hence disaster. Thoughts? My index ranges from 2 - 4 so I'm not new at this but certainly not a pro.

Thanks for your comment. This video is on the swing plane, not on sequencing. When I break my hands along the plane that is established by the angle of the shaft, I am illustrating the motion of the hands, not the sequence of the swing. When I do a full swing and hit the ball in this video, I am not starting the swing with my hands only, I am starting the swing with the entire body (legs, hips, shoulders, arms, and the hands.) My wrists do begin to break at the beginning of the swing, but my entire body is in motion. Each of my videos are on specific subjects, but they are limited to the subject I announce at the begining of the video, meaning, they are not designed to cover or suggest anything other than the subject. This video is not to be used to learn sequencing, it is on adjustments that need to be made in the swing plane based on the club being used. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply and clarification. It makes sense. I went back and looked at your swing again and I see what you are saying. I'm in Baco Raton for the winter, playing one day then practicing the next. My goal this year is to get to a zero or better. Will give this a workout. @@yoursimplegolfswing
