This is the story of African youth celebrating their youthfulness and contributing to the transformation of their community.
The Youth Day of Service (YDOS) is a one-month, annual Pan-African, youth-led social impact campaign which coincides with the celebration of the UN International Youth Day in August. It is a platform to harness African youths' energy, creativity, and innovation by encouraging them to volunteer their time, skills, and resources to deliver a sustainable future for Africa.
Since the programme's inception in 2020, the Youth Day of Service has recorded participation in 24 African countries and engaged over 6000 volunteers in about 400 regional SDG Action projects.
The Youth Day of Service 2023 theme is Youthful and Useful: The Road to 2030. This theme already speaks to the focus on amplifying the Sustainable Development Goals with the YDOS 2023, as 2030 is the deadline for the actualisation of the SDGs. In 2022, there were projects across all 17 SDGs. However, there is a need to deepen the impact and broaden the knowledge of young people across Africa about the SDGs and the role they can play in actualising these goals by 2030.
