That's exactly why I'm here too! What midi string library do you use? I'm on LASS but I'm open to other convincing options. I know this was a year ago, but whatevs.

@PiaNoLuVeR6197 There were two examples I played found in Suzuki Book 1. They were both Minuets (#1 and #2) by Bach. I'm honestly not sure of what their original catalogue number is and I imagine they were first written for the keyboard.

I know this video is super old now, but for what it's worth I found it very informative. It has put my mind at ease! I'm an adult beginner cellist and have been agonising over this stuff for a while now. I was confused by all the grey areas within these two techniques and the overly simplistic explanations I had seen previously that described staccato as leaving the bow on the string and spiccato as lifting the bow off the string. I kept thinking I was missing something. This video explained everything! On that note (;-D) I'm off to practice.

one question having to do with the left arm. Does my left forearm have to be perpendicular to the floor? I've seen people playing with their elbow going a lot under the violin towards the right of the body, but for quite some time I've been playing with my left forearm a bit sideways with the elbow just under the left part of the violin.

wow, this video is very helpful, your explanation makes me understand better the difference between the two, thank you! :) Staccato is more like - - - - - (dashed line) and Spiccato is more like . . . . . Hi Beth, I'm starting up bow staccato practice and my bow tends to 'jump' down a little bit after each staccato stroke. I was told to let the bow hair grab into the string with my first finger but it doesn't seem to work. If I do down bow staccato it'll jump up a bit every time... Do you know what causes it and how to fix it?Is it because unwanted tension in my wrist or some part of my hand when I increase bow speed&pressure? My teacher won't be available till next weekend and I'm at a loss.

it is saltelatto a la meta……saltelato from the fingers…..a good example of spiccato bowing can be heard on romance number 2 by dvorak…..saltellato is again very diferent….i am sure beth has a lesson on this……i need to see it too lol

I have a quick question how do you Logoto on the viola?
@diana88diana
8 жыл бұрын
The main difference between leaving the bow on the string and lifting it is that when one lifts the bow the string may continue to resonate, but when you let it rest the sound doesn't resonate. So it may be more labor intensive to lift it than not, but - hahahaha. Try doing all this on a doublebass and you'll really know what labor is all about!:)
@diana88diana
8 жыл бұрын
+diana88diana Also, the little stacatto dot usually means only half as long as the regular note. There are also conventions with regard to the real lengths of notes which are written one way but actually played a bit differently.
