i think that one of the coolest party is that everything plays out in the MIND of this one yakuza dude (hence the name mind game i think), in the beginning he says something about how nice it would be to have some sort of magic time belt to rewjnd time, and i think the whole story happening in the movie is a thought product of the Yakuza sitting in the car at the beginning of the movie

Too many video essay channels try so hard in sounding deep or profound. Meanwhile you so effortlessly nailed the essence of the show while also sounding casual. I feel like the effect is you've made each word that much more personal rather than an "all-knowing" take that doesn't really mean anything.

Such an over the top yet beautifully comical film. I've never experienced this type of cinema before. The whole movie just felt like one nonstop stream of consciousness with its plot taking unforeseeable direction at each turn. One word to describe the movie is "freedom." 10/10 must watch for mature audiences.

I felt like all the fun they were having in the Whale was to distract themselves from the bleak situation they were in. If they didn't see it as such, they wouldn't have tried as hard as they did to get out of the Whale. Edit: I like your interpretation better... Discovering themselves in the Whale then wanting to escape even more afterwards.

Really good video man, I haven't watching anything on this anime since it first aired on toonami in 2017 I think. I just recently remembered one anime I watched a long time ago when I was like 14 or 15 (am 21 now) and it got me thinking about this movie and I just find it funny that this was uploaded so recently and that I've just now thought about it recently after now thinking about it at all for years and how the plot really speaks to me more then it did back in 2017. Thank you for this and taking the time to read this.

This movie explains that life is a mindgame in a sense that it is profound of how we generally exist but yet if we don’t want to have regrets or in any means how we should just deal with it, we should just bold to live it the way we want with no boundaries whether how high or how low. We have no choice that we become alive yet we are part of it so just be part of it. Life by that definition is a mindgame that humanity encompass in their heads thru every generations and yet to come - and it is the blueprint of every human life in the cycle of life.

My son made me watch this this Thanksgiving and it was a lot better than when he made me watch Holy Mountain. My son is kind of weird and awesome. And his wife owns a designer dress based on Holy Mountain. I still find Brooklyn hipsters in an old Masonic Temple in Brooklyn creepy....but I prefer any of this to Boba Fett or popular music. Don't blame me....blame my son. But I want to watch Mind Game again.

Great analysis. Just watched this film and was pretty blown away by how ambitious and packed with ideas it is. As it was starting out I assumed the goofy tone would pretty much sum it up overall but I was wrong. It's goofy, crude, hilarious, existential, introspective not to mention downright wtf-did-I-just-watch weird. As someone relatively inexperienced with anime (does it count as anime?) I had a hard time distinguishing what elements of this were common anime tropes and which were simply sheer experimental mindfuckery, but needless to say I would love to experience more like this. Can anyone point to other similar works?

Well, this film is an anime and it is under the dementia genre. There are lots of anime that can be categorised in that genre; still, this film is extremely unique. I swear no part of the film manifest any anime trope. It's wacky, a rollercoaster ride, weird as f, nonetheless, beyond expectations.
