@@GamerJosh2611 And it's because of that complexity, most people outside of the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom (namely casuals) find it hard to get into it. Also because of this power creep with cards becoming more convoluted and overpowered, it's hard to enjoy duels because of the degeneracy that comes with them, like FTKs, OTKs, Burn Decks, and Control/Stall/Stun Decks.
@shadowtrench
6 жыл бұрын
@@holynovaentertainment5007 I gave up playing in highschool when I tried my old, (mostly scrapped together fairy deck) against another student. Little did I know the guy played competitively (of course he didn't tell me till after and he really didn't seem the type). He went first and while I was able to follow it somewhat, he special summoned 3+ monsters immediately and all had 2000+ attack. I was basically left playing defense with each turn some crazy effect nullifying everything I did. I play a monster and a trap, both gone next turn. I don't think I lasted more than 3 turns and pretty much stopped playing after that. Rather than investing more money (which highschool student) to get cards with new effects to remain viable, I just stopped playing. Eventually found a good crew that enjoys magic and to me its night and day. While magic can have OTKs those are extremely rare and only exist in certain formats. The timings and orders are pretty self explanatory and the use of keywords rather than a paragraph to describe an ability makes it easier to follow (and easier to search for in rules). Seriously, pull up the rules and search for a keyword ability and you'll have your answer. Again, there are always exceptions. At least I haven't seen Magic trying to shorten important terms like GraveYard to GY. Lastly, while not always the case, I have seen mid to slow speed decks be effective even against fast decks. Maybe its because of the plethora of Dark Hole-like cards (Wrath of God) that exist and are perfectly legal allow players to punish hyper aggressive decks. When new Magic cards come out, it doesn't immediately invalidate past strategies. In fact, I often find new cards that can augment my existing decks to make them better. I mostly play commander (more casual, money hungry format), but I do enjoy limited drafting and Legacy constructed. I'll leave it on one piece of criticism, Magic has too many formats and what cards are 'legal' in the format are often confusing even some veterans. For example, they format may limit certain sets, or blocks, or cards after a certain year. Thank God for MTG Familiar (phone app) that makes it pretty easy to filter searches, including format legality checks.

I suggest that the next time, when you introduce him to Fusion summoning, you also introduce him to Archetypes, with Basic Elemental Heros, since they are one of the most begginer friendly archetypes and he already used Sparkman this time so he will be familiarized. Also, using more random stuff should be more fun xD, like unusual effects or random based effects, such as Time Wizard or Elemental HERO Rampart Blaster (Fusion)

They really are. Especially for fusion summoning, because from the basic ones (the ones Jaiden used), they can fuse with each other really easilly. Most EH have more then 1 fusions possible, and the ones that don't, have effects that can be quite usefull. Well Duelist Kingdom existed before the card game and was going off the manga so it’s shenanigans we’re completely legal. Battle City existed during the early card game so that’s why it has more proper rules besides the fact the manga did that too. The only real rule Battle City had that isn’t a IRL rule is that Fusions had to wait one turn to attack the turn their summoned.

Maybe a recommendation for the next videos until Sam knows how to build a proper deck is that he makes 1 deck of his own choosing like this episode and you also build a deck for him so he can see what cards are good combos with others and do best to 3 with both decks. So in future episodes he knows how to combo well. Anyway awesome video and the length wasn't a problem, long videos are good videos! Keep up the good work and I look forward to future episodes! It's cool seeing a new player start playing the game, and this was a great video, but I noticed just one little thing that I checked the comments for and didn't find. When you Snatched V-Tiger Jet while equipped with Megamorph, since you were controlling the monster with higher life points, I believe that it should've had it's attack halved. Not a big deal since there was a Mirror Force on Sam's field, but definitely something that could've affected the state of the game negatively if not. Overall a good video and I look forward to binging the rest of these!

Some strong points that I noticed you doing: (1) you have the learner explain what they understand, (2) you point out mistakes and then give the learner an immediate opportunity to correct them, and (3) you don't really hold back during the games, which gives the learner a sense that their progress is legitimate. Good work!

54:30 He really is a fast learner, flippin up your trap that will annihilate the enemys turn without saying a single word is the most destructive thing in the game! I love doing this in situations like when the enemy has 5 Monsters, some even tribute summoned, and he just runs into my mirror force, then u just have to flip it open as cocky as you can! Arrogance +1

The way he says YugiNO to YugiPro, that always gets me. It's nice to teach other people things that you know. Back in the 50s I taught my buddy (who died, his name was Bob) how to play marbles. Keep up the good work young man.

As someone who has taught multiple people two of which still duel today (I dueled one of the them yesterday) it is nice seeing a experienced player teach someone new. For those wondering we didn’t break quarantine through the power of Duel Disks.

@TGS Anime: I'm well aware that was just for learning, but once you already decided to set your monster face-down defense position you can't change your mine or flip summoned it during the same turn except with card effect, because you though equiped card can be equiped to face-down monster, you can't target a face-down monster card with an equiped card, so the actuall thing that should have happen instead since the only valid card on the field for megamorph was your opponent face-up attack position, so you would have been force to equipe your megamorh to your opponent, and since megamorph you still control it and your life points are lower, it would have double the original attack of your opponent monster card that you pick. The reason why he let you bottomless trap hole go through late, was because he relize he did not pass priority when he succesfully summoned the monster, for peat sake always remember to pass priority even when teaching the rules, I notice a lot in dueling book, my opponent during their main phase activated spell card search deck right away without passing priority, I had something to negated their card, since they already cheated if I negated it it will make unreparable game state, if I let it resolve I accept them cheating and tell them they did something, and then later on they repeat the same thing again by activating and resolve right away without waiting for a response from their opponent.

44:01 Dicephoon Doesn't Target. On Activation: The Card Just Activates; you would need to activate a card in response at that time *Before* the Dice is rolled. When the Card's Effect Resolves, Then the Dice is Thrown and it's Effect is determined by that roll. ~Fun Fact: "Stardust Dragon", a monster that can Negate effects that Destroys Cards, *Can Not* Negate Dicephoon because there is a Chance that Dicephoon's Resolving effect is "You Take 1000 Damage" instead of a Destruction Effect

At 1:09:44 {Even tho the Effect didn't resolved} Pot of Duality Can Not be Used in this Instance Because of it's own effect _You cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate this card_ Monster Reborn was Previously used to Special Summon Beta the Magnet Warrior, thus preventing this card activation ~Fun Fact: There are Some Card Effects that Say "For the Rest of the Turn" instead of "During the Turn". With these card effects, You Can Preform the Action it says you can't, so long as its Before you Play the Card. Once you Play the Card, its Effect then Applies

Man, this is so good and refreshing. Makes me wonder though, what cards or archetypes that acted as catalysts to the trend of special summon spam? I'm guessing Blackwings, it was once popular as hell.

that's awesome!! When he gets to the more modern playstyle, a recommendation if you don't mind for a deck that is easy to grasp and somewhat effective for a beginner, is Yosenju! The cards are really cheap and it has a simplistic, control based playstyle, obviously once he's a bit adapted to a more modernized version of the game lol
