There are so many great pianists these days whose performances are a joy to listen to, but I don't think any others quite reach Yuja dizzying heights. So I am crowning her the Queen of the Keyboard. You people saying negative things about this video, you're all wasting your time. I myself tamper with classical pieces and I can assure, we don't care when you tell us that Mozart or Chopin are rolling in their graves or that it's an abomination. We know the original piece is beautiful, and not a single modified version can beat the creativity and innovation the original piece has brought to music. The original piece isn't going anywhere. After we tamper with it, it'll still be there. We just do it for the sake of creativity and fun.

True, but Yuja plays it even better than Volodos. And that's saying a lot considering Volodos is a phenomenal pianist.
@Dragonagemast

Vette gaddia I don't know about that. Certainly it's a matter of opinion but I feel like I hear more personality from Volodos. While Yuja's sounds faster and more played mechanically almost to mechanically. I just prefer the sound of Volodos that's all lol.
@frintonearnshaw
9 жыл бұрын
AlmostEpic I think I agree about that, although he isn't necessarily delivering a live performance. His playing sounds a bit like he looks - even though he can do amazing delicacy there's always an underlying solidity which is quite distinctive. His only Achilles heel - if I can mix my metaphors - is his stomach! I sat on a stage seat in the RFH in London a few years ago when he was -playing Prokofiev 2 - and he does encounter a few - er - natural obstacles when he tries to cross his arms too far! With Yuja Wang I just can't understand where all the power is coming from.

Volodos and Fazil Say are not clowns, altough Say often try to rivals with the ridicolous faces of Lang Lang. Please do not mix chocolate with another brown cream of very different nature. Astanova began, when very very young, in an interesting way, as she had good masters (hear the video with Moments musicaux n.4 of Rachmaninov), ...in the prosecution tried to find the limit between piano music and lap dance, now... other two inches cutting her miniskirt and she'll be ready for OnlyFans...

When she is on the piano bench, Yuja is pretty much there to play, not mess around. When she comes onstage to perform say a concerto with an orchestra, she just sits down usually takes one crank at the seat adjustment knobs and begins. If the piano is the first voice to be heard, the conductor had best not mess around with "Grand Manner," stuff on the podium, or she will be three staves down before the conductor can raise his hand.

this is really impressive. the turkish march as written is almost impossible for a soloist to play. i would argue it's more difficult than flight of the bumble bee because not only does it have the speed to it, but it's octaves and chords all over the piano, whereas flight of the bumblebee is runs in relatively one area. she had to foresake where her lift hand or her right hand was going in order to keep playing. it's especially impressive that she has that muscle memory down.
@kpeterson2011
9 жыл бұрын
well, if we're talking about the difficult transcriptions of the originals then why not compare the (Volodos) Turkish March with Cziffra's Flight of the bumble bee with it's interlocking octaves instead of Volodos to the original flight of the bumble bee.

Fantastic arrangement and even more fantastic (incredible) jazzy performance. Even W.A. Mozart most probably would have liked it (his "severe"father Leopold- I do not know). Congrats and thanks for this hi-level interpretation! Greetings from his (and my) birthplace!

That war surreal, mainly because of her godlike playing, but also because as the title suggested I expected the normal version, and the beginning seemed to confirm that, but at the exact moment it got different my door slammed shut because of the wind, like it was an indicator for her to free the demon.

She's actually mixing two different versions. she starts with the original by mozart, then segues into the super famous paraphrase of this by Arkady Volodos, which is super advanced and insane. there's an older video from 2007 of her playing the Volodos version from start to finish and its amazing. it's called "House of flying fingers"

I clicked on this video thinking "Turkish March is way too easy for Yuja Wang" and I was not disappointed.

Al estilo Mozart: Interpretar e improvisar para hacer una obra maestra. Yuja es una maestra, es enorme.

A wonderful composition so well played by a fantastic pianist. Yes, Y. Wang plays the Turkish March very technical.

A LO LARGO DE MIS ALGO MÁS DE 80 AÑOS, Y HABIENDO VIVIDO DESDE MI MAS TIERNA INFANCIA EN UN SENO FAMILIAR DE GRANDES PIANISTAS, JAMÁS HE ESCUCHADO A NINGUN SER HUMANO, CON TAN BRUTAL CONOCIMIENTO Y ABSOLUTO DOMINIO DEL PÌANO, INCLUSO CON BASTANTES MAS AÑOS DE EDAD QUE YUJA WANG. DURANTE MIS TIEMPOS EN LOS QUE MI ECONOMÍA ME LO PERMITIÓ, CAMBIÉ TRES VECES DE PIANO CON LA ESPERANZA DE QUE AL SER DISTINTOS Y MEJORES PIANOS, YO PODRÍA MOSTRAR MAS PROGRESOS, PERO NO FUÉ ASÍ. JUAN ANTONIO.-
