That was a-ma-zing! I don't think I've ever heard that style/genre of music before, but I just love it! I love how you seem to put your personal spin on things. You have some of the best creative chops I've heard - maybe ever! You have a new follower here, and I'm certain this isn't the last time I'll listen to this particular performance.

Thank you so much! I didn't set out to make a downtempo microhouse unironic simpsonswave tapeloop but that's what it became~ the final track has been reworked and will be included in the upcoming EP. Stay tuned!

Great performance! I’d love to know about your approach to filming and editing this one. It looks very natural but I’m sure you spent a long time setting up cameras, lights and editing video.

Of course! I have my own video production company so I'm decently equipped. But with antiquated gear tbh. Main (front) cam is a Canon C500 recorded onto an Odyssey 7q+, Canon RAW to ProRes4444 @ 4k. Zeiss 35mm f/1.4. Camera shake is from the Sapphire plugin. Overhead is my phone, Xiaomi Ultra 11 @ 4K on a simple boom arm. Close-up is a Canon 5Diii, 1080p, Zeiss 100mm f/2.0. But being an old school DSLR it cuts off after 29min, so it dies before the last song. Over the shoulder is a backup, trusty lil DV cam @ 480p. The scaled-up footage looks shitty by comparison so I added an overlay. Lighting is an overhead no-name 300w through a softbox and on stage right is an Aputure... can't remember, the tiny light panel. Kicks ass. I shot the performance three times. This was made for a pre-recorded Livestream event so I needed an option where I couldn't piecemeal it together and had to stay authentic, hence the timer you see on the table. In retrospect the timer was for my own reference and made it difficult to piece em all together. D'oh. Anyway the third take was the best. But this edit was a combination of the three takes. 90% the third take. Cuz the lighting & BPM doesn't change, I could usually switch between takes. Sometimes it looks silly, like at 7:08 where I reach, do nothing, then reset. I figured no one would notic. Basically sync'd with a rough mix of the Ableton multitrack, cut it up so it has the best takes, eased up the transitions between takes, bounced the multitrack back into Ableton, reapplied the effects using a template from the original recording, basic mix, back into Premiere, color and voila! Last bit sounds like a lot of work but I've done it a few times and find it's not so bad once you get the hang of it. Everything in the vid was authentically played, I could've gone in and fixed shit but I'd rather hold *some* semblance of authenticity haha.

Great show. Captivating. As a Circuit user I’m particularly interested in how you’ve utilised it in this scenario. For example, how many sessions might you normally employ for each tune. I imagine it’s simply a drum loop per tune in this case. I’m trying to get my head around the many ways it could be used in a longer set. Thanks again. Great work!

hey I'm glad you asked and I'm more than happy to explain. There's 4 sessions, one per song. In the second song (Tera 0:56 - 5:38) it's very simple. Just 4 patterns chained together on Synth #1, 4 on synth #2, and 1 pattern each for the drum tracks. Starts on synth #1, unmute the second synth after a bit, then unmute the drums. After that the only change is opening the filter on synth #1 for a bit. No B-section here. The third song (Mad Scotsman 5:38 - 9:40) the drums are similarly simple, just 2 patterns chained together each. However, the song is made a bit longer by Synths #1 and #2 being broken into an "A" and "B" section, each 4 patterns chained together. The real iconic sound of this song is the sidechain effect created by feeding it through the SP404's compressor. one synth is a pad, one's bass. All the vocal chops are on the SP. In Born to Do (11:25 - 14:32) it's a little more subdivided. Drums are still 2 patterns each. Now there's *4* sections to each synth, each 2 patterns long, for A/B/C/D sections. The delay effect is doin some crazy stuff on the drums here. At 11:37 you can see the standard pattern switch here: four fingers, real quick, triggering two patterns on each synth in a line. And the outro song, "In My Life Is You" (circuit starts around 20:05), the arrangement is identical to Mad Scotsman. Drums are 1 patterns each, and Synths #1+#2 are two sets of 4 patterns. It's funny; at 20:35, I thought the drums were 2 patterns each, not 1. That's why the cut out after a measure, and I scramble to shorten it to 1 beat. Think I had a good save though with that dope hulusi melody.☺️ Thing is, if this performance was *only* on the Circuit, I would've had to do quite a bit more to vary it up. But because there's a cassette machine providing ambience, effects on the SP404, and all the traditional instruments to lead the show, the circuit can remain pretty minimal and chill. I toyed around with the idea of doing the A/B/C/D sections on different sessions, to keep things really varied, but I did all my experimenting in 1 session per song and just preferred to keep it that way for the performance. TL;DR fewer, longer sections at a slow BPM with other stuff to accompany the circuit keeps thing varied up. Thanks for watching, hope that helped.
