The parade of Yuzuru Hanyu, who won the first gold medal for Japanese men in Sochi Winter Olympics figure skating, was held in Sendai, his hometown, on the 26th. Approximately 92,000 people (announced by the organizer) who gathered to see Hanyu at a glance cheered "Thank you for your impression" under the blue sky.
Before the parade, Yoshihiro Murai, the governor of Miyagi Prefecture, awarded the prefectural honor award. Hanyu said, "I'm really happy to be able to bring the gold medal to Sendai," while saying, "Please don't forget about the disaster area (of the Great East Japan Earthquake)."
The parade car slowly proceeded through the city center, and Hanyu waved his hand toward the roadside many times and responded to the cheers.
