Yvan's videos did the same thing to me ... turned everything I thought I knew about rotaries and detailing on its head. I USED TO be afraid of the rotary, now I love using it.

I have to decide whether investing in a rotary is a good choice for me. With the right pad and slow polisher speed, I can see how it would really be a nice way to finish off a polishing project.

Rad Yvan has been preaching a rotary finishes better for years. I always kept an open ear because the theory made sense to me. This really shined for me when I bought a corded rotary and the results really hit home. Local detailers have asked how I get the paint so crisp but I keep this secret to myself because they are trying to prove how well they finish with a 21 mm dual action polisher. The rotary is also easier on my arms. Thank both of you guys for this video!

So did the final polish come out hologram free then? I have an unused makita rotary actually getting ready to let her rip. Whats your pad choices for straight rotary compounding and polishing? Thx
@RADGarage

Using the rotary on low speed with the red finish pad resulted in a hologram-free finish. As for pad choice with rotary, that's where I am at as well. I haven't had much experience with the rotary process, but feel like it is something I will experiment with this summer.

Hey Rick. I'm dying To KNOW as a detailer.....can We Paint correct with da on a car that has ppf? Or is that pointless?
@RADGarage
9 ай бұрын
Most PPF is self healing so they don’t need any correction, but some of the older stuff can actually be corrected to a degree. For PPF, I usually do a wash with a PPF-formulated wash and if it smooth to the touch, I will then add a ceramic coating. I don’t take the polisher to PPF any more.

Same here, Fred. I had two Flex machines and sold them because I didn't see the need for a rotary. That said, I do like the continuity of having machines from one company. I am really on the fence as to what rotary machine to purchase if I do end up going down that route again.

My only fear is leaving holograms behind. I used to have a Flex 3401 and I ended up ceramic coating my blue SQ5 after polishing it and only then did I notice the holograms. I think people are also worried they could burn through their clear coat with a rotary. Yvan conducted an interesting test with the team at The Rag Company in which they tested which machine would burn through clear coat the quickest. I was surprised with the outcome: kzitem.info/news/bejne/t6-wnIRvkZeKpawsi=-Q56z9UVFRdG3ess

I'm not entirely sure of the lingo, but it was either buffing trails or holograms and I locked them in with the ceramic coating, but I was a newbie back then.

Hi Rick 👋! If you are considering buying a rotary polisher I would highly recommend the Flex PE150-18.0 EC battery powered. I bought one earlier this year and I love it! It is a workhorse. I have taken a couple of detailing/paint correction classes from Mike Phillips and I now feel confident using a rotary. Cheers!!..

That one is on my watch list. I just really really like having my machines all match. I know that sounds lame, but I'm leaning towards the Rupes rotary. A few people have questioned the ergonomics, but it just FITS so well in my garage.
