I mean how much sense does that make though? We have a boom bap resurgence, the underground is thriving, some of these guys make more than your favorite rapper. Quality does speak for itself and there is a way to do business in the industry. What went unsaid in the episode is that Paper Boi and rappers like him put themselves in positions of financial burden.

How many people who watch this show are actually tuned in with Hiphop and how its been changing? The idea that Hiphop is materially a young man's sport is simply untrue. There are so many avenues beyond exploitation for aging acts. Paper Boi and Earn both have incredibly different understandings of management. Thats why Paper Boi had to be informed his artist died. Because he was exploiting that YWA since he was scared of fading into irrelevancy and no longer being allowed to live an exuberant lifestyle.

I'm guessing it has to do with appealing to a certain demographic. I'm not sure artists get a YWA per se in real life, but they have to find a way to break into that demographic (here being the yt community) in a way that attracts fans. This will make them to be generally accepted , which increases their fanbase, which will lead to more people listening to them and attending their shows, which might influence them winning awards which gives them more publicity which will further increase their fanbase, which will lead to even more ticket sales and business opportunities, which at the end overall means more money.
@BEASLAND000

a music artist usually has a lifespan of about 10 years of relevance before their act becomes old and unappealing to the people that listen to music (kids). after that the money dries up and the penthouse parties dissapear. Best thing to do in order to maintain that lifestyle is to find and support a young up and coming artist, so you will get continual kickback's once they become the new flavor of the week

Rappers are making money off of white people , they are the ones paying for concerts merchallat making the rappers bank, lil Bibby having juice wrld and kid Laroi as his artist was an example of having a “yea” being able to break into that demographic of young white kids listening to hip hop nowadays i dont think they alway have to be “white avatars” but this happens very often in the music industry

Usher made bank off of Bieber, Akon made bank off of the "Poker Face" chick, and there's others. One way for artists to keeo making money after fans start tuning them out is by signjng a young artist and pushing them to startdom. It's easier to do that with young white artists at times because they look like what the popular audience, mostlt white as well, wants to see.

What this speaker is saying is that you have to become a "Simon Cowell", "Scooter Braun" or "Clive Davis" in Rap music. Find the young talent that you can sign to your own management & vanity label deal and market that talent to a major for distribution. You'll produce and ghost-write most of their music and handpick the other producers and rappers they work with, maybe even rapping with them on a few tracks. Now you're an manager, agent and taste maker!
